Offensive names - and EA support literally doesn’t care

Playing clubs is always interesting, as you’ll always come across someone thinking a certain name might be “funny’. So, reporting an offensive avatar name yesterday, EA support once again, simply ignores it, as they say it’s fine.

So EA officially is ok with:

- references to Adolf * or fascist WWII people, phonetically to sound like it, so letters changed slightly

- references to sexual predators and paedophiles - alone yesterday 2x Jimmy Savile + likeness

- racial slurs or references to severe sicknesses

According to EA this it’s fine and they won’t act, as it doesn’t violate their Positive Play Charter.

So - EA thinks that the above is part of positive play. This would make a great story on gamesindustry or any other gaming site.

  • I've worked with EA Customer Support for 1 year, and let me tell you, EA doesn't care for this. You will contact us for this, you will express your concerns, and we will guide you to raise it on the forum. If you want a resolution, unfortunately, EA doesn't handle this directly. Happy gaming!

@EA_Darko - it is raised through the in-game function. After the report it goes to some support function, does it not? And every time I receive the standard template, that it doesn’t violate the Positive Play Charter.

This then ofc means, that either EA doesn’t care or EA silently agrees and supports fascist notions, sexual abuse, racism and so forth. As if it isn’t against any of your rules, then you are for it.

Hey @xHarlekin all reports are independently reviewed by a member of the team.

Our team cannot comment on if an action has been taken.

Curious, Is it really an actual member, or is it an algorithm?  I've seen some that any human would have noticed the slight changes in letters.  Makes it really hard to believe that it was a human.  But if that is the case, it is what it is I suppose.

As far as I know, it's not even EA. It's a 3rd party company that provide block lists that EA subscribed to.

Likely why it's such a mess and not really fit for purpose.

    Edit:

Seems EA use CleanSpeak to do all the profanity filtering for them.

I'd presume there is some EA interaction or moderation involved somewhere along the lines, but 99% of issues or filtering is automatic.

Our name "TFF 08" got banned 2 days ago (after 10+ years, used to be a commentary option too), and can only presume that was done by some algorithm as surely no human could possibly see anything offensive in it!

Meanwhile we see club names or player names daily that are clearly there to spread hate or offend, and reporting them does absolutely nothing.

It's a total mess, completely out of control, and is getting far worse each week/month/year.

Hey all, just to once again clarify that all reports are reviewed by our team.

If action is taken or not then this is not something that we can communicate with you.

There can be reasons why a name that may appear offensive to you is not actioned due to additional context that our team has at hand.
