Looks like they have messed up the child control settings, and as mentioned above the more who report it the better.
I received the below response from online chat after contacting them. Took a fair bit of explaining that the game works fine for an adult user, but the error message for child accounts make the game unplayable (as any game mode that has any online functionality such as a squad update says not accessible due to online controls).
"No worries, yes as I have also checked player are reporting the same. It seems Online-service-disabled in EA FC 24.Please do not worry We've recorded your feedback or bug report for review. I will surely pass it to the concerned team so they can double-check and and if they determine enough players have the same problem and the problem is technically addressable with a patch, or if a fix is possible in the game so they can furnish better game-play experience for you."
Did anyone get a work around or fix on this?
This is appalling! It still does not work and ea seems to ignore the issue. Horrendous customer experience, and I have an extremely unhappy pre-teen here, who can't use his christmas present.

Same problem here, it has seriously ruined the Christmas spirit in my house, it is not OK that it offers online access to gaming and is PEGI 3 and yet not what it is sold as at all for the PS4. Very, very bad.
