Let's Talk Football

By the time I realised we had a football forum last game year it was kinda too late and usually just had some random Chats in The Career Mode Stories General Thread.

Maybe we can have a good General Football Forum here as they seem to be quiet most places and I ain't touching Reddit.

Let's start it off with basics

Who do you Support?

Favourite Past and Present Footballer

Which Leagues do you follow?

Myself I'm a Leeds United Fan for my sins, favourite current player despite leaving us is Raphinia past is a tough one, John Barnes was one of my faves as a kid as was Georgie Kinkladze but it's probably Paul Gascoigne as one of my all-time faves.

I follow The Championship as that's where Leeds currently play as well as the Premier League. Always checking in on Serie A and La Liga, but don't follow them as religiously as used too.

I used to chat on the old Real Football Forum back in the FIFA days. They were fun at times but I usually forgot to check in.

    I support Spurs.
Favorite player was Dele Alli and Ryan Mason. I loved Dele for the way he played, the skills and the attitude. Mason just seemed like a great guy, did all the fundamentals right and you could tell he loved the club like a fan does.

I follow the Prem, Championship and the CL/EL. I listen to podcasts at work so I hear about other leagues but I do not watch them often.

What's the best game you've been to?

Hereford - Away to Aldershot on the last day of 2013/14. We had to win and hope Chester drew to stay up and save the club from going bust. After 88 minutes we scored to go 2-1 up but Chester were winning. However, just as our goal celebrations we got a shout from someone in the stand listening to the Chester game on a radio (I feel old saying this), Chester had conceded. It turned out the two goals were simultaneous and in the dying minutes we'd survived. Sadly due to some well publicised issues the club was sold to someone other than the fans and was wound up later that year. The feeling of thinking a goal has saved your club is one of the best in football.

England - the final in Berlin this summer (despite the result). This is the only feeling better than the one above, when Palmer scored I fully believed for a few short minutes that it was our year and it was finally coming home.

I'm often torn on this, seen many great games throughout the Football League and Non League. I think for Non League was many many years ago probably 95 Yeovil Town Vs Bath City in The Somerset Cup. Finished 3-3 and a Brace from Adi Mings father of Tyrone Mings saved what would have been an embarrassing defeat at the time for Bath City.

Another good game involving Bath City was an FA Cup 2nd Round tie home game at Twerton Park which ended 2-2 against Northampton Town. Controversial opening goal given to Northampton as keeper Dave Mogg comfortably caught the ball and bounced it to which the referee claimed was over the line. Was a very wet and windy night, but not enough for that kind of mistake, but Paul Randall to the rescue with a phenomenal goal to level the game late on. I believe the goal has been exaggerated over the years but was still great at the time. Unfortunately got thrashed 3-0 in the replay. I believe this was 93 or 94.

Same ground different fixture. In the days of Bristol Rovers being Homeless they played at Twerton Park. Pretty sure was a league match against Swindon Town. Ended 4-3 Swindon end to end stuff. Again mid 90s I believe. Saw all these matches before I was 10 years old and have always stuck in my memory

  • bGreat idea with the thread. I can make the directory again once we get a few threads going. I'll get the international thread up in time for the next international break.

    Who do you Support?

Hereford and England - Follow both around the country and the world (sadly I'm yet to see Hereford abroad).

    Favourite Past and Present Footballer

I'll do this for both teams separately

Hereford - Rob Purdie for a past player, Jarrod Bowen for a current player

England - Becks and Rooney have to be my favourite past players and probably Jude and Jarrod for current. Jude's by far the best player I've ever watched. I'll also always have a soft spot for Trippier, Shaw and Palmer after their crucial goals. Palmer's goal in Berlin was one of the best moments of my life (even if I was limping for 4 days due to the celebrations afterwards)

    Which Leagues do you follow?

    National League North

    Prem

Pretty much ever international comp there is
