Very thoughtful post! If you’re just getting back to the game, I’d suggest incorporating Squad Battle games. Rivals is your next best option but the game just released so people are still playing through divisions. Once you hit your rank you’ll win 1, lose 1 on average.
I wouldn’t say people you face must be smurfs currently. For example, I’m usually in Elite Division but still in Div5 now because I didn’t find the time to play yet.
Gauntlet is new and there are no infos on how matchmaking works yet. Seems to be hit or miss, but you can’t lose anything for trying and every win gives you some rewards.

This is the thing any returning eafc25 players go straight into division 7 providing you were div1/elite prior, he’s not wrong with the matchmaking atm, it’s rather scattered, personally just don’t like champ or rivals, the games are far too long, only time I actually enjoy rivals is when I co-op them, but even that atm is tedious.
