MARZEC FEARS TOUGH DRAW AJAX - 'WE MUST BRING IN POINTS QUICKLY!'
Ajax-head coach Daniel Marzec admits his team is facing a tough draw: 'but any draw would've been tough for us'. Ajax start the group stage campaign at home and will end it at home too, against last year's runners up FC Internazionale.
'On paper, it would seem we stand more of a chance against the teams we'll play in the beginning, than the ones towards the end: we must bring in the points quickly!', Marzec thinks.
Ajax was firing on all cylinders during the opening four rounds of the Dutch domestic league, Eredivisie. The Amsterdam side didn't drop a single point and didn't get a goal against.
But Marzec knows UEFA Champions League is a completely different level: 'On a domestic level we're one of the favourites, in Champions League we need top performance and little bit of luck just to make it into the preliminary round of 16. That's the difference: at home we expect silverware, in Europe it's doubtful if we'll make the top 24. But that's the current reality, ask me again one year from now!'
