Left Stick Dribbling is Back – No Need for Technical PlayStyle

Hello — FC 26 has changed a lot of things, and the most important change is the dribbling system. Finally, the fun and responsive dribbling with the left stick is back.

But why is the Technical PlayStyle still in the game?

It’s well known that the Technical PlayStyle is very, very bad. Defenders can’t take the ball away because when you press the button that activates the Technical PlayStyle, the game pushes the defenders away from the dribbler — no matter how well you position yourself or try to anticipate the ball.

So what’s the point of having it now, if left stick dribbling is accurate and effective?

Do I still need help from a playstyle that pushes players out of my way too? This PlayStyle acts like a shield or protective zone around the player, making it unnaturally difficult to get close to the ball carrier.

I really hope they remove this PlayStyle — it’s broken.

I think the only reason EA devs haven’t removed it is because it makes the player's running animation look more realistic.

But in terms of actual gameplay value, it’s a negative feature that harms the game.

A couple of things I disagree on, but in general I still get tackled all the time while using technical. I would believe that with improved left stick dribbling in the game technical will just be an improved form of it. You will run a little faster, and touches that are less than 45 degrees will be quicker and sharper. Obviously, I would need to see it in action, but for me it's the only logical answer if they are keepeing technical.

Alright, you're talking about the current state of the game. Let me give you a bit of background on why I said these things, so you're aware of the full context.

The Technical PlayStyle was first introduced in FC 24, and it was overpowered — to the point where defenders couldn’t take the ball easily. It felt like the player had a protective zone or shield around him that made it almost impossible for defenders to dispossess him. Here's a clip of me in the past scoring a goal using this PlayStyle — no defender could get the ball off me:

After that, they tried to balance things by reducing the power of the PlayStyle.

So yes, what you're seeing now — defenders being able to tackle — is because they nerfed it. But still, this PlayStyle is poorly designed, especially in FC 25. Left stick dribbling is weak, so most players ended up dribbling using the Technical PlayStyle or the same button that activates what’s called “Controlled Sprint,” which is tied to the Technical style.

     Why?

Because it creates a certain effect on defenders that makes it harder for them to defend properly.

But in FC 26, if left stick dribbling is actually good again, then what's the point of the Technical PlayStyle?

I hope now you understand what I was trying to say.

  • I could see if the game was going to be realistic but it’s pretty obvious that they are making offense easier and arcade so I can’t see them removing it. Even if they did remove it they would instead of doubling the pace and dribbling would triple or quadruple it to make up for it.

If the game was realistic it would make sense to remove it though.

I’m someone who loves dribbling, but this PlayStyle is unnecessary in FC 26 as long as left stick dribbling is good.

I can see where you are coming from, but until we actually feel left stick dribbling and what technical does in fc26, we will have no way of knowing if removing it would be justified or not. I didn't play fc24 ultimate team I only played seasons that year, but the current state of technical still allows you to be tackled easily and there is no protective zone for it.

If you really want to go into it then all playstyles are irrelevant, I personally believe the game was better without them, but until there is proof that the fc26 version is broken or not I can't justify them just removing it. Especially if there are still thing like delay and lag as it may help balance those things a bit.

Yes, I agree — playstyles were never really necessary to begin with. As for Technical, I believe that with left stick dribbling returning, there's no real need for it. We’ve been dribbling just fine in previous versions like FIFA 23, FIFA 22, and all the older games without playstyles or Technical, and it was still fun. Of course, since we haven’t tried the game yet, it’s hard to say it should be removed. But with the beta coming soon, we’ll finally be able to test it for real.

  • wait till the game actually comes out and left stick dribbling feels heavy and delayed like FC25. theres no way on earth they fix 26, it will be just like 25 am certain.

Is that ai defending or players? Sorry but nobody even tried to tackle so to say it's over powered is ridiculous lmao. I'm not even that good and I tackle plenty of players with technical. I manually defend so I'm used to it. Problem is most people will always find it hard when they just leave ai to defend for them lol

See my issue is without technical how responsive are things actually going to be. 90% of the time I feel like I'm dribbling with maguire when I'm using cruyff or ribery. Then when I actually get good gameplay it's way to responsive for me to play with lmao. The best thing to do is fix the core of the game so everything feels fluid 90% of the time, defensively and offensively and we wouldn't have these issues period.
