Manager Career Mode

In Manager Career mode I am managing USA, the board objective is to reach FIFA World Cup, but it shows as failed. But all I have played are international friendlies, there was no qualifier match or anything like that and my team also never lost a international friendly match.

Also in the month of November the Ballon d'or event didn't even happen, not even in news feed. What am I doing wrong here?
