The update to make career mode harder (it didn't) also broke Squad battles difficulty.
Pre release they stated that they had 2 different teams, 1 working on authentic and 1 working on competitive. Either this was a flat out lie or they broke it accidently, neither would surprise me with EA.
I've been commenting on my own post about this issue for ages and, of course, completely ignored.
It doesn't seem to make any difference what difficulty you play SB on, the same things happen. Most posts seem to get ignored, at least regarding the important things like gameplay. I often wonder if there's actually anyone there.
I've left the game at this point mate, bad enough that they only listen to man-child content creators and those that want unrealistic gameplay but to make this change that literally nobody asked for...
I don't think they can change it back because no matter what bs they spout about different teams for authentic and competitive modes, I think squad battles and career mode are linked.
