“Connection to opponent lost / match under review” even with stable internet
Hi, I occasionally experience the message “Connection to your opponent has been lost. We will review the match report and update you.”, and I’m trying to understand why this happens.
Whenever this message appears, the match outcome behaves very strangely. If I was winning, the result usually gives me the win. If the match was tied, the outcome becomes inconsistent — sometimes it counts as a win, sometimes as a loss. And if I was losing, this situation has never happened so far. These aren’t the causes of the issue, just the patterns I’ve observed after it occurs.
For example, today I was tied 3–3, and the message appeared right after my opponent disconnected mid-game. I don’t think they quit intentionally since it was in the middle of the match, so I’m really trying to figure out whether this is related to opponent disconnections, server instability, or something else entirely.
My connection should not be the issue: I’m using a CAT6 Ethernet cable, a stable 500 Mbps connection, and no background apps were open (screenshot attached). I don’t use any third-party tools, overlays, or software, and my PC setup is clean. I also run an NVIDIA 5070 GPU, and everything on my side seems stable. The only trend I’ve noticed is that this tends to happen when the in-game ping suddenly spikes, which makes me suspect a server-side problem.
At this point, my main goal is simply to understand why this happens and whether there are any actual solutions or steps players can take to avoid it. If this issue is coming from server instability rather than intentional quits, I genuinely hope EA can improve the stability — especially for PC players, as these disconnections seriously affect match outcomes.
Since this problem has occurred multiple times in a consistent pattern, it may even be reproducible on the server side. I’m sharing this in good faith so EA can identify and improve any potential server instability, especially for PC players, if this is not related to users intentionally quitting.
