Can no longer play online

I downgraded from the EA Pro Play subscription to the standard edition of FC26. Since doing this, whenever I load into an online match, whether it is a tournament or rivals, I cannot move any of my players and get booted out for not playing. Is this by design? Do I have to renew my subscription to play the game going forward?
