Switch user age 10 cannot connect to server

Hi my son got this game for his bday and has additionally paid for switch online membership for his profile but cannot connect to servers, I've tried everything and the only thing I can think of is his age. I have have adjusted all the age restrictions on the switch app but cannot change his actual DOB. Is there any solution other than creating a new profile (and having to buy another online switch membership)
