Unfair upgrades

I had the 86 rated UCEL knockout Xavi Simon’s card and put him in the frostbite finisher evolution during winter wildcard promotion and he earned low driven + and now I have no low driven at all due to EA upgrading his EVOLVED card after Tottenham got 4th in the UCL. 
The reason why I’m upset is due to previous FC games like last year when you put a card that could get upgraded into and evolution they didn’t get their upgrades give by EA but for some reason my card lost all his upgrades from the evolution but kept the card design but got all the upgrades from the promotion. 

I would like to know why this happened and if their is a reason please explain clearly.
