All players selected, could not change any player or steer

Starting the FUT champions game I experienced the following bug: 

after starting the match up all my players were selected and I could not control any player anymore. Gamepad inputs did not react, keyboard inputs did not react. I could reach the pause menu, but also there I was not able to change the controls. (everything seemed normal)

Obviously, I lost the game which ended a good streak for me.
