Losing Control: My Honest Experience With EA FC
From the moment I started playing this game, my players have felt unbelievably sluggish. Every simple action, passing, shooting, even controlling the ball, comes with some disgusting, unnecessary animation delay that completely kills the flow of the game. It makes everything feel awkwardly slow and unresponsive. I can’t make quick passes, I can’t shoot in front of the goalkeeper without being tackled first, and by the time my player finally winds up, the opponent has already taken the ball.
What makes it worse is how my players behave off the ball. My attackers constantly hide behind defenders instead of making intelligent runs. Passes that should be straightforward somehow go directly to my opponent. I can’t connect even the simplest passing sequence, and it feels like the game actively works against me. Defenders stand still while the ball rolls past them. Even when my players successfully tackle the ball, they immediately step away from it or retract backward, allowing the opponent to recover possession instantly. Sometimes my player literally leaves the ball while dribbling, almost inviting the opponent to take it.
Defensively, the issues are just as bad. There are countless moments where the ball is passed directly to one of my defenders who is standing right in front of it, yet I can’t control him because the cursor switches to a completely different player far away from the action. While I’m fighting the cursor, the opponent simply walks in, takes the ball, and scores. Instead of tackling, my defenders randomly contain. Instead of chasing the ball, they slow down or stop entirely. My attackers suddenly lose all pace when they’re on the ball, making it effortless for slower defenders to catch up and dispossess them.
What really convinced me something is wrong happened recently. I was intentionally trying to get relegated to a lower division, and suddenly—out of nowhere—my players became fast, responsive, and intelligent. They made runs. They passed cleanly. They reacted instantly. I even beat an opponent with a far better team 5–0 in the first half, and they rage quit. That level of performance has never happened to me before. But the moment I won that single game, everything reverted back to the same sluggish, broken gameplay.
At this point, it genuinely feels deliberate. Whether it’s Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment, engagement-based matchmaking, or some kind of hidden manipulation, it no longer feels like the game is decided by skill. It feels like EA decides who gets responsive players and who gets handicapped. I don’t buy packs. I don’t spend money on players, and I never will. Sometimes it honestly feels like my account—or my ID—is being punished for that.
I’m old enough to understand patterns. This isn’t randomness. This isn’t “bad form.” This is a game that feels programmed to control outcomes for retention, not fairness. I find myself losing to clearly weaker players while my own team refuses to function. Every day I regret buying this game. I spent nearly $100 on something that consistently feels broken and hostile to the player.
I don’t have advice for EA’s developers because they know exactly what they’re doing. This isn’t incompetence—it’s design. All I know is that I won’t stoop so low again to buy another EA product. This experience has completely killed my trust in the franchise.
