International Break Problem

EA, I’m currently playing Career Mode—it’s September 22, 2030, and I’m in the EPL. Two of my key players have missed two matches (against West Brom on September 18, and now Leeds on the 22nd) due to an international break. I’ve never encountered this before (though I’ve previously played in lower divisions, not major European leagues). Did I make a mistake, or is this just another issue with the game I paid $70 for?
