EA account closure after linking Steam account – appeal still pending
Hello everyone,
I’m looking for advice regarding a permanent EA account closure.
I purchased a Steam account containing EA Sports FC 27 from a third-party marketplace. I then used the email address provided with the Steam account to create a new EA account and linked that EA account to Steam.
Shortly afterwards, EA permanently closed the account. The email I received only stated that the account had violated the EA User Agreement or Terms of Sale, without explaining the exact reason, without me even playing the online game even once.
I submitted an appeal, but it has been pending since 26th of September (day of the ban) and I have not received any detailed explanation yet.
What concerns me is that the EA account was newly created, and I did not knowingly engage in cheating, coin distribution, fraudulent transactions, chargebacks, or any other activity that I understood to violate EA’s rules.
I am trying to understand whether the issue may have been triggered by the Steam–EA linking process, the history of the Steam account, or something else entirely.
Has anyone experienced a similar situation? In particular:
- Has anyone received a permanent ban shortly after linking a Steam account to a newly created EA account?
- How long did your appeal take?
- Did EA eventually explain the exact reason for the closure?
- Is there any way to contact the Terms of Service team besides waiting for the appeal?
Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Hey ilDaedra,
The EA staff here on EA Forums can't help with a ban.
Please hang in there for an email reply from our Terms of Service moderation team for more information, if you have already submitted an appeal.
For the future, I'd recommend against buying any account on any third-party marketplaces.
You can find a list of authorized retailers on EA Help, which also explains the risks of buying from unauthorized digital retailers:
If you purchase from unauthorized digital retailers
Buying EA digital games from unauthorized sellers comes with a few risks.
- At best, you might get the wrong product or language version of a game you buy.
- At worst, unauthorized websites may be phishing for your EA Account or payment info. This can result in fraudulent activity with your payment details or losing access to your account.
- Unauthorized retailers might sell you a fake, used, or stolen CD key or product code.
- We’ll disable any illegally obtained games and product codes. That means you won’t be able to play your game or redeem your virtual currencies.
- EA Advisors won’t be able to help you with games you bought from unauthorized retailers or illegally.
Each purchase made from an unauthorized retailer carries risk. Make sure to keep your account and personal information safe.
Thank you for your patience with this.
