DirectX crash in EA SPORTS FC 27

Hello,

I am experiencing a recurring DirectX crash in EA SPORTS FC 27 on my PC with an Intel Arc A750 8GB.

The game launches normally and I can navigate through the menus without any problems. However, when I try to start a match, the game crashes and displays a DirectX error.

The error is:

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG (The GPU will not respond to more commands)

At one point I also received:

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

The error identifies my GPU as:

Intel(R) Arc(TM) A770 Graphics
Driver: 32.0.101.9033

PC specifications

  • GPU: Intel Arc A750 8GB
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • OS: Windows 11
  • DirectX: DirectX 12
  • Resizable BAR: Enabled
  • GPU temperature: around 52°C during normal use

What I have tried

I have already tried the following:

  1. Updated the Intel Arc driver.
  2. The initial driver update failed and FC 27 started giving the DirectX error afterwards.
  3. Completely removed the Intel graphics driver using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode.
  4. Reinstalled the Intel Arc driver 32.0.101.9033 using the Clean Installation option.
  5. Cleared the Windows DirectX Shader Cache.
  6. Cleared the Intel Shader Cache.
  7. Repaired the FC 27 installation through the EA App.
  8. Disabled overlays and unnecessary background applications.
  9. Tested the game with lower graphics settings, 1080p, 60 FPS and V-Sync enabled.
  10. Checked that Windows is assigning FC 27 to the Intel Arc A750.
  11. Checked Resizable BAR, which is enabled.
  12. Checked the GPU with GPU-Z. The GPU is correctly detected, PCIe is running at x16 4.0, and the GPU temperature is normal.
  13. Performed a normal Windows restart after the driver installation.

Despite all of this, FC 27 still crashes with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG when trying to enter a match.

I have also tested other games on the same PC, including Fortnite and Golf It, and they work normally without crashes. This makes me think the issue may be specifically related to FC 27 + Intel Arc + DirectX 12 rather than a general GPU problem.

I would appreciate any help or confirmation if this is a known issue with Intel Arc GPUs in FC 27.

I can also provide DxDiag, EA Error Reporter logs, GPU-Z information or screenshots of the DirectX error if needed.

Thank you.

EA SPORTS FC 27 (DX12, Steam) crashes on match load with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG.

System: Intel Core Ultra 5 225H (Arrow Lake-H, Series 2), Intel Arc 130T integrated graphics (16GB shared), 32GB RAM, driver 32.0.101.9034 (latest), Windows 11 build 26200, game v1.0.4.

Symptom: Main menu works fine. When loading a match, as high-fidelity player faces/assets are loaded, the game goes black and freezes, then crashes with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG. Call sites vary: CreateCommittedResource / CreatePlacedResource / resource->Map in RenderCore2 Dx12.

100% reproducible: Real Madrid vs Barcelona always crash; matches between smaller clubs (no scanned faces) play normally; even "simulate match" in tournament mode freezes. Changing stadium does not help.

Already tried: latest driver, -dx11, lowest settings, render scale 0.5, HAGS off, MPO disabled, fullscreen/windowed, larger page file, file verification, clean shader cache, clean boot.

Key point: FC26 and other games (Diablo) run perfectly on the same machine; FurMark 10-minute stress test is stable, so hardware/thermal/VRAM are ruled out. Intel already lists this as a known issue in the driver release notes: "EA SPORTS FC 27 (DX12) may experience an application crash on certain Series 2 platforms."

This is a modern Arc 130T GPU, not a below-spec system. Please escalate and fix this in an upcoming game/driver patch. The game is currently unplayable on Series 2 iGPUs.

UPDATE (all testing on DX12): I've narrowed the trigger to the loading of the HOME team's high-fidelity player assets.

    - Home = minor team (generic faces), Away = Real Madrid -> works fine
    - Home = Real Madrid, Away = minor team -> crashes within ~1 second of clicking start; I cannot even reach the cutscene/locker-room
    - When a minor team is home, the locker-room cutscene plays normally (generic player models) and can be skipped, then the match works.

The crash call sites are all resource-creation/upload functions: CreateCommittedResource (ResourceBuilderDx12), CreatePlacedResource (ResourceUploadHeapDx12), and resource->Map. This suggests the hang happens very early, while creating GPU resources and uploading the home team's high-resolution scanned-face textures / compiling their shaders. The away team's high-fidelity assets appear to use a lighter or deferred path, which is why the same club away does not crash.

Please look into the home-team high-detail face/kit resource creation and shader compilation on Intel Series 2 iGPUs. Thank you.

UPDATE 2 (DX12): Further tests narrow it specifically to Real Madrid as the HOME team.

    - Home = Barcelona, Away = Real Madrid -> cutscene plays, match works fine
    - Home = PSG, Away = Real Madrid -> cutscene plays, match works fine
    - Home = Real Madrid (against any away team) -> crashes within ~1 second

So the hang is NOT simply "a big club as home": Barcelona and PSG as home (with Real Madrid away) both work. The crash is specifically tied to an asset or shader that only loads when Real Madrid is the HOME team (e.g. the Madrid home kit/material, a specific scanned player face, or a Madrid-specific home entrance element). I had already changed the stadium, so it is not stadium-related.

Please investigate Real Madrid's home-specific assets on Intel Series 2 iGPUs. Thank you.

UPDATE 3 (DX12) - Completed a full reproduction matrix. The crash is consistently tied to loading high-fidelity scanned player faces/models, NOT to mode-wide assets.

    Kickoff mode:
    - Home = minor club, Away = Real Madrid -> works
    - Home = Barcelona, Away = Real Madrid -> works
    - Home = PSG, Away = Real Madrid -> works
    - Home = Real Madrid, Away = any -> crashes (~1 sec)

    Champions League mode:
    - User controls Club Brugge (minor club) -> fan march cutscene plays, match works
    - User controls Barcelona (big club) -> fan march cutscene plays, but after skipping into the 3D match it crashes

Key deduction: Club Brugge in the Champions League ALSO uses the CL star badge, the star CL match ball, CL stadium decorations and the fan march, yet it works - so those CL-specific assets are NOT the trigger. The difference is that big clubs have high-fidelity scanned player faces that get loaded in the 3D match; Club Brugge does not.

Cutscenes (including the CL fan march) always work; the hang only happens once the 3D match creates the high-detail face resources. Every call site is CreateCommittedResource / CreatePlacedResource / resource->Map (resource creation/upload).

Root cause: on Intel Series 2 iGPUs, creating D3D12 resources and compiling shaders for the high-fidelity scanned star-player faces hangs the GPU. Whether it triggers depends on the rendering detail the mode assigns to a team. Many current Intel laptops are affected - please prioritize a fix. Thank you.

    Hello Intel Support,

I am experiencing a reproducible DirectX 12 crash in EA SPORTS FC 27 on my desktop PC. The game launches and allows me to navigate the menus, but crashes when loading into a match, including Rivals.

    System specifications

    • GPU: Intel Arc A770 16GB (ASRock Phantom Gaming)
    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
    • RAM: 16GB
    • Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
    • Operating system: Windows 11 Home
    • Graphics driver tested: 32.0.101.9030 and 32.0.101.9034
    • Resizable BAR: Enabled
    • Game platform: Steam

    Exact error

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

The error indicates that the GPU stopped responding to commands during gameplay.

    Troubleshooting already completed

    1. Used DDU in Safe Mode to remove the graphics driver.
    2. Reinstalled Intel Arc graphics drivers, including 9034.
    3. Tested driver 9030 and then returned to 9034.
    4. Reinstalled EA Javelin AntiCheat.
    5. Verified the Steam game files; all 687 files validated successfully.
    6. Reset the FC 27 configuration files.
    7. Closed background applications and overlays.
    8. Checked Windows Reliability Monitor, which did not provide a useful crash record.
    9. Attempted to locate the DirectX and Intel shader-cache folders, but the expected folders were unavailable.

    Additional observations

    • EA SPORTS FC 26 runs normally.
    • Other games, including Fortnite, GTA, Roblox, and Batman, run normally.
    • The crash occurs specifically in FC 27, particularly when loading a match.
    • The PC remains responsive during some black-screen incidents.
    • Reinstalling drivers 9030 and 9034 did not resolve the issue.

I found other reports of FC 27 crashing with the same DirectX error on Intel Arc A750 and A770 graphics cards. One A770 report also describes the crash occurring with driver 9034.

Could Intel investigate whether this is a driver compatibility issue affecting FC 27’s DirectX 12 rendering path? I would appreciate a confirmed workaround or a driver version that resolves this issue.

I can provide the DirectX error screenshot and additional system information if required.

    Thank you.

  • I am also having this exact same issue, with the exact graphics card, I have tried all the things you have tried. I think it’s a genuine bug with eafc and intel, idk what to do about it
