If you activate a player in badge section you make him untradable. You even get a warning message to confirm it

Thats not the answer to my question. Have you activated him in badge section (home screen at bottom middle)?

Yes, I use badges in my line-up
Even when I removed the badge and replaced it, he still couldn't be traded.
