I’m totally fine with matchups that are +/- 10 ranks above or below my rank, but the problem is that if you’re in the lower tiers of FC Champions EA will match you with someone 20, 30, or even 40 ranks above, but never below. This just isn’t fair or fun!
I recognize that EA has a problem — there are just fewer users available to match with as you move up the ranks (i.e., it’s a pyramid). So, EA appears to be solving this by giving a +40 FC Champion-ranked player a match with me (at +10). My argument is that they should either (a) make the +40 player wait for a match with someone at their level; or (b) at least even things out by allowing me to occasionally play someone 30 ranks below me! As it stands, the first two tiers of FC Champions (ranks 0-9 and 10-19) just get abused. We are consistently matched with opponents that we have no realistic chance of beating and it’s just not fun or fair. This situation is totally fixable if EA will only show us some respect and stop favoring speedy matchmaking for the “whales” who occupy the highest ranks over fairness for the rest of us.
No sooner had I left my last comment than this happened (see below). Not super surprising really, as this happens almost every day. As I’ve said, I’m not complaining about a +10 rank difference (that would be reasonable). It’s when it’s +20, +30, or, in this case, +40(!) that it becomes ridiculous. This is fundamental issue of fair competition and respect for users who invest their time and money in the game. We just want a fair shake and to have fun. It’s not too much to ask.
Matchmaking and subsequent latency (due to matchmaking often outside of regions) are being looked at I'm told. There are no timeframes that have been mentioned at this point in time, as it's a complex issue. Pulsar should be able to share details once the devs share it with CMs.
Still happening. As I’ve noted before, I’d have less reason to complain if I ever benefited from these lopsided matches (by getting paired with someone who’s -30 ranks below me!). But, of course, that never happens.
The way this plays out is that the serious grinders like me (who can’t afford to buy a team of meta players) wind up trapped in the lower tiers of FC Champions where we get used as cannon fodder for the “whales” who sit 30 ranks above us. This is frustrating from a gameplay standpoint, but it also feels demeaning and abusive simply from a human standpoint. Let the whales play other whales, but it’s totally unnecessary to make me their whipping boy. I’m sure I’m not alone in this. All we want is to be treated fairly.
