Need some inspiration

I need some inspiration from the EA team. My team is not fun. The players I'd like to have on my team are either obsolete or hundreds of dollars away (sorry guys, I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on a player that will become obsolete... I don't mind spending some video game money, but I have principles... lol).

My league and most leagues I've been in struggle with highly active players dropping out of the game for the same reasons I'm expressing. I'm chasing numbers, chasing events and rewards all to not get to play the actual game very much. 2-3 hours chasing rewards to play H2H for 5 or 6 games. I'm playing events with teams that are not mine in formations I don't use so I can get better at H2H, meanwhile I don't really get much time to develop my H2H game. I don't have any real attachment to my H2H team. This is why we are losing people. And it's getting harder and harder to stay motivated to play.

EA really needs to make fun players accessible. It doesn't have to be free, but 2-3 hours a day to save up for weeks or months only to get players you don't really want that are going to be obsolete (if not already). Or spend a totally silly amount of money every month. So when you burn out of the 2-3 hours a day, and you are unwilling to light your bank account a fire for a video game, you are only waiting for your team to get nerfed and you're done. There are hundreds of ways that EA could remediate this imbalance.

  1. Make resetting and acquiring skills free.
  2. Allow default skills to be set by the player.
  3. Just let me have the player I want. You can upcharge for player development/training/ranking on the same scale, but let me have the characters that I identify with.
  4. Create leagues, divisions and matchup based events on overall ratings as well as the open divisions.
  5. Less peripheral activities more gameplay.
  6. Less penalty for playing players out of position (specifically within attack/midfield/defense groups and maybe left/right sided preferences)
  7. Skill stars shouldn't limit the moves players can attempt, they should only affect how well they execute the moves. You want the settings to be the same for every player. The players name does not always appear when you are in need of executing a skill move.
  8. If you could do something to minimize lag issues and that nerfed feeling, that would be amazing.
  9. Allow for changing formation in game.
  10. I need some time to organize substitutions or at least give me manipulable parameters for the auto sub feature. Auto sub is terrible right now and if I manually sub, I give up a goal by the time I am back in-game.
  11. No surcharge when buying/selling players from the market. This is just a nickel and dime FU to players... lol
  12. Less of a gap between acquiring and releasing players in the signings program. We need to be able to change our minds or correct a personnel issue much easier. I cannot for the life of me understand why EA thinks it's better to make team-building harder and more frustrating. Way more people drop out than dump-in good money after bad money.

Just use common sense to make the GAME more fun. I 100% guarantee I would spend more if the game was more fun.

  • Lots of good points/suggestions. I agree with most. I’d really emphasize the following:

    • Game has gotten far less rewarding over the last year. Players are more expensive to acquire in time and/or money and we have a lot less certainty in our ability to claim the players we most want. This is VERY frustrating/demotivating. Everything about the game now seems optimized to milk “whales,” and the result for the average player of modest means has gotten dramatically worse. At this point I would never recommend this game to a friend (only an enemy, lol).
    • Some basic changes (and/or reversions to the way the game used to work) would help a lot. For example, LeoEyeNEye suggests making the shard exchange rate more favorable. Currently, the shard trade-in value is only 1/10 (or less!) compared to the signing cost of top players. In a word, this stinks! And the fact that inflation has run rampant in the coin-based transfer market only makes matters worse. I’ve saved my coins for over a year, but with 5.6 billion in my account I can’t afford ANY players that would improve my squad. This is deeply frustrating.
    • Substitutions need work. First off, we should get 5 instead of 3. Second, there needs to be a more user-friendly way to queue a sub. Currently, it’s nearly impossible to get a sub made in a competitive H2H match without giving your opponent a huge advantage (often resulting a goal).  At the very minimum we should be able to sub after a goal (even if the ball has already been reset in the center circle). Late-game goals often call for tactical subs and the window of time between the goal being scored and the beginning of the celebration montage is simply too short (especially in H2H where, if it was the opponent’s goal they can skip the celebration). Either change the way substitutions work in-game or do as LeoEyeNEye suggests and let us program certain substitution patterns pre-game (e.g., using if/then parameters relative to player fatigue and/or time and score line parameters).

The game is currently set up so that only rich people can build squads that they like. The rest of us labor hours a day and can no longer claim compelling rewards. Meanwhile, there is no modest amount of money that the average user can spend (say $20/mo) that provides any certainty of changing our lot. This means that F2P feel less motivated than ever before whether it’s to put in he “grind” or to loosen the purse strings and spend a little. Maybe EA is making so much off the whales that they don’t care, but, in the long-run, F2P (which is the majority of the user community) are just going to lose interest and leave. If EA is indifferent to this, then I guess I’m wasting my breath. But if the company cares one iota about the broader community then some things need to change — SOON.
