Welcome to the new caste system
We all know this TOTY event has erected a new paywall between F2Pers and meta cards. Thus far I’ve been able to win only one 116 (Pedri) and, alas, he doesn’t improve my squad because my biggest needs are in attack. As it stands, I haven’t won enough 115s to be able to make great use of the UTOTY exchanges, but, as we all know, the P2Pers immediately cashed in yesterday when the UTOTY dropped.
And the results are jarring. A little over a week ago my squad was still competitive enough to reach +10 FC Champions in Manager Mode. Say what you want about how lousy that mode is, but it’s a pure simulation and, as such, it provides a reference point for how the underlying code rates various players. Sadly, ever since UTOTY dropped I have lost every MM match I’ve played (and most of the matches haven’t even been close — see screenshot). As noted, this is a marked difference from how my team was performing just days ago, and it’s no coincidence that it has occurred immediately following the release of UTOTY. Put simply, players with access to these top player cards now enjoy a substantial advantage over those who don’t.
This is a gap that will only widen with time. As F2Pers find it increasingly difficult to field competitive squads we will increasingly lose out on the dwindling number of “earned” opportunities to win top player cards. As time goes on, this will have the effect of creating a two-tiered “caste” system in FCM where F2Pers will soon have ZERO hope of EVER competing with P2Pers again as the gap between the “haves” and the “have nots” widens into a chasm. Perhaps this is what EA intends — a “pay or else” message to F2Pers. If so, then the majority us have to ask ourselves whether we are willing to accept the humiliation of being made into permanent second-class citizens. If it’s not what EA intends, then they need to take IMMEDIATE action to re-balance the remainder of the TOTY event. Too many of us have invested too much time in building our accounts/squads to see EA light a match to them and, in one month, nullify months (even years) of hard work.
