Mate - that generally happens when one of you loses connection - if it us you you drop out of the game, if it is them then the AI takes over for them, and provided that you play slow and steady you will easily win the match.
if you attempt to play fast like in a normal h2h it will trigger the AI and they will become more aggressive, making it harder for you to score and more likely for them to counter and get through your defence.
The prevailing VSA cheats dump you entirely out of the game, or change your score at the end, they don’t generally slow you down (that is usually relative distance to the server - which is not a cheat, but feels like it)
