Re: Getting kicked from online games with a good connection and an open NAT

Hi there, @Primetimemike21.

Let's see if we can find out what's going on here. First, are you on a wired or wireless connection? Thanks!

  • I’m on a wireless connection, been on the same wireless connection for years with the same ISP and have never had an issue with Madden until last month

Cool. Try that out and let me know if there's an improvement or not. Chances are good that will really improve your connection.

  • So wired I seem to not get kicked, but the issue is running and Ethernet cord across the floor 15 ft isn’t ideal. I’d prefer wireless instead of having to have a cord out to play online, especially since wireless has never been an issue in the past.

Wireless is the biggest reason for disconnects and lag. I stretch a wire across my living room because I can't stand to be disconnected from being on wireless. So, I get the frustration with needing a wire, but if you stick to wireless, you'll continue to disconnect. You could try changing the wireless channel you're on. That may help. Also, if you have other devices on your network that are streaming or using up a decent amount of bandwidth, that can contribute to getting disconnected.

  • No yeah that’s what I figured, but I just find it weird that I haven’t changed anything as far ISP or new devices in almost 5 years and then randomly start having issues with Madden online but no other online multiplayer

Did anything get added to your network recently or has someone started using more bandwidth? Also, have you power cycled your modem, router and console recently?

  • I did the power cycle yesterday and no nothing has been added, that’s why it seems so weird that out of the blue I’m unable to play madden online

I'm about to head out for the weekend. I'm happy to help with this on Monday though. Something else to check, see if your router has a firmware update available. Also, did you try changing the wireless channel?

  • From what I can see yes the firmware is updated. I’ve changed the wireless channel and I’m still having the same issue

I think you're best bet is going to be using a wire. It's also possible the increased traffic from everyone staying home is having an effect.
