Cutscene freeze near end of game (PS3 - not Saren battle)

I've reached the endgame of Mass Effect 1 for the PS3, but have hit a brick wall with one of the cutscenes locking up every time.

After reaching the Citadel through the mini mass gate there's a cutscene with Sovereign attacking and ships flying about. It cuts to a Turian who starts yelling about  closing the arms, and then just stops, zoomed into what I think is his back. 

I've seen some asks elsewhere but no solution.  Tried deleting the game data and reinstalling the game, and lowering the graphics levels, but neither solved it.

Not willing to reformat my PS3 over it, and definitely not playing through again as it's taken me four months to finally get this far!

Really keen to finish up if I can as I'm looking forward to taking this save to MS2 and 3.
