So if I want the augmentations off my chestpiece to put on the new one, I need a chestpiece to put on so I can remove the chestpiece I have on. Then I can deconstruct it.
This is why, if I remember to do so, I keep an extra one of everything which I don't use except to put on so I can craft.
I feel like this is something that not only can be handled better, but should be. What do you think? Is this a problem/pain and if so, what are some ideas on how to fix it?
I'm thinking that they should just let us be able to load out naked or if we do loud out "naked" (and it is into a combat zone) it will give us the default level I gear that has no stats.
On a side note, was it always like this in Mass Effect? I don't remember.
i have to agree with the op here. though on a few of my PTs (the ones with adaptable characters) my character keeps a few sets of armor depending on what i need the gear to do at any given time. so not as much an issue for them. but otherwise it's an annoyance to keep duplicates of all my augs for new armor.
if you forget to reequip your armor in the field it would be alright for the stock lvl1 initiative gear to be given to your character, imho.

Yup agreed as well. Especially when you are starting from level 1 again and dont have much resources, you will need to deconstruct to get the resources for an upgrade. There was once I forgot, went ahead and deconstructed a bunch of other armor and couldnt swap it out, man that was frustrating... Constructed another suit that I didnt want, wore it, deconstruct the current one, made the new one then swap out and deconstruct the temp one. So annoying.
Perhaps bioware have a construction mechanism that give the option of using your previous armor as a base to add on for the improvement. So for example if you need 100 units of platinum for construction, the previous one will have 80 if deconstructed, all you need now is the excess 20. Augs will automatically go back to the inventory. Since you cant construct weapons or armor for your squad, it just doesnt make sense to keep the lower version.

I'll admit this crafting system is a bit of a mystery to me still. I wondered if there was a way to retrieve augments or even just deconstruct crafted items at all cause so far I hadn't run into it and the game doesn't really explain these things very clearly or I missed something.
Since I've only played on normal difficulty I haven't really been in trouble because of it, so it's more that it's an annoyance for me.
Anyone have any suggestions about a good source of info about this stuff?

Yup if you deconstruct your weapons and armor, all your augs and mods will be back in your inventory, DONT sell them though, if you sell your weapon, you sell all attached augs.

This.
I know hyperbole is pretty common across the internet; but the moment I realized that I had to salvage my old gear and craft new stuff from scratch instead of just upgrading it with the appropriate materials? That was the moment I fully realized the game was going to have fundamental flaws at the UX level.

Smart. I on the other hand was the complete opposite for awhile to where on more than one occasion I had to buy or build something to equip before I could craft what I was trying to make, lol.

I like this idea. Think it's pretty cool and creative.

LOL Thanks!
Would be great if Bioware have some kind of a suggestion box scheme, if they adopt some of our ideas we get paid... or at least a free game... no? Free DLC? lol...
