I miss the ME ability to just equip and unequip gear and components as needed, including on the currently equipped gear. They never do seem to get it quite right. The inventory from ME had other issues, but at least interchangeable bits while out in the field.
ME2 and 3 had no inventory, so it made sense that you wouldn't be able to change your load out everywhere and anywhere you want. They did still allow ammo effect changes in combat. Here, they've added an inventory back, but never took away the restrictions on changing your load out, and no more ammo changes mid combat, and ammo types are now consumable.
The crafting system saddles you with enough junk to need inventory management, but no way to easily do this. it's like they've never played their own game all the way through to experience some of these issues first hand.

This x1000.
I was just talking to someone and saying to them that with some of the problems in this game, it is as if the people who made decisions regarding it, never actually fully played their own game. To some degree, I have to wonder if the decision makers have ever played an RPG before period.
But I can't imagine them fully testing out the crafting and inventory systems then saying, "Oh yeah. This is excellent!"

Jesus, this quote stuff is so bizarre. I was writing here, than added a space and it appeared up above. It's so messy. Christ.
And we'll never get to learn some people's motivation into what they would think it's fun, just like one will never get to fully agree with my point of view either. However, sometimes things seem so obviously not fun that it really creates a bothering queue in the background processes of our brain, trying to figure it out.
Regarding this subject, most of my ideas are HERE. To shape them around this, inventory could only exist on your field experience, showing what you would carry around, if you had an Armory system, that is. I really hate these looting, crafting, researching, market, augmentation, consumable systems. They don't work well in this game as they are. To me, all of them are tied in a macromechanic that should be reviewed and worked from sketch again.

Lol, that's why I generally avoid the quote system.
But yes, the whole thing is messed up, but I'd feel much better with just one change if the whole thing couldn't be revamped.
If I could just deconstruct even what was equipped or at least unequip it even if I didn't have something to replace it with, that one change would make things much easier for/to me.

Well folks, the difference is we are a bunch of fans that wanted to play this game and have done so. Some of them are just developers that do this cause it's their job, just do what my manager tells me, clock my hours and earn my pay. Tick in the check box mentality.- 9 years ago
Personally I don't have a problem with how it works right now and having the spare armor in my inventory is not really a big deal to me 🤔
But then again I also have the deluxe and preorder armors which are one piece armors with only the helmets separate, so when I equip one of those I automatically unequip the armor on my legs and arms, if it is a lot of trouble having a spare for each armor part you can always craft a Heleus armor, which is also a one piece armor 😉
