DVD Media problems

Hello there,

I bought the Trillogy from Amazon and experienced problems reading from the DVD.  I sent them this email first:

As you can see it is a trillogy.  I have finished the first game, so I went to install the second one today.  However, the DVD for the second game appears to be damaged because I can't read everything from the disc.  I have also tried to read the files from a different computer and had the exact same problem, so I believe the issue is with the physical DVD.  As such, I would like to return the game for a replacement.  However, because it has been more than 30 days since I purchased the game, I am apparently unable to return it to you.

I would like to ask if you would consider exchanging the item for me.  Because this game is a trillogy and I didn't finish the first game in less than 30 days, I wasn't aware that the goods were faulty within your 30 day requirement.  Indeed, there could be a problem with the third game too which I am currently unaware of (because I haven't got to the third game yet).

It seems fair and reasonable to me that given this game is a trillogy and the time constraints of getting to the second game that you exchange the game for me at no extra cost to myself.

Amazon then kindly sent me a replacement.  I then had the same problem with the replacement, so I sent them this email:

Thanks for your email; I was really impressed at the customer service you provided.

Unfortunately I have more bad news.  I received a replacement copy today from Amazon, and I had the exact same problem.  I realise that this sounds like a coincidence and that the problem now points to my DVD drive.  However, I have tried it in 3 different drives in three different computers I have access to, and none of them can read all the data from disc 1 of the second game.  I would be interested to heard how many of these discs you have had returned, for it seems like to me that there is a massive lack of quality control wherever they are manufactured.  Unfortunately, I do not have the bandwidth to download the game either.

I am unsure how you would like to proceed.  I have 2 games in my possession now, and I am more than prepared to send them back to you using the label you have provided, so that you can confirm the disc read errors that I have described

I would like to hear what you have to say about all this, for it seems that the quality of your DVDs is substandard.  Thankfully Amazon have agreed to refund me my money.  Let's see if you can match their customer support

Thanks

Andrew

  • The PC discs of the game have a copy protection on them that make it difficult for cheaper DVD drives to read them correctly. I had this issue myself, except that retrying a couple of times seemed to work. If you're on PC, you can always just register the game to Origin and download the digital copy without additional cost, but since bandwidth is a problem for you, you may be out of luck.

P.s.: You seem to adress the other forum users as if they work for BioWare or EA. This is a forum where players help each other out and there is little EA presence here. For official customer support, visit: http://help.ea.com . Not all regions support al contact methods.

Thank you for your response and your suggestions for help.  I have 2 copies of the game in my posession, and tried both copies in 3 different PCs, so I don't really think I can do any more in terms of trying again.  If the copy protection is the root of the cause, then it's a very poor show.  This is the sort of thing that pushes people towards piracy, since they will have none of these issues!

I'm sorry if I have confused my audience here, and I do appreciate your help.  If EA provided a simple email address I could write to, then I would have chosen that.  But I don't think they want to deal with these kind of emails because they made it very difficult for me to find such an address, if one even exists.

Thanks again for your help Andrew

I actually have the exact smae issue. I bought the trilogy yesterday and wanted to play Mass Effe3ct2 off the bat and ran into this issue. Because I already activated the serial key provided in the Retail box the store I bought if from would not exchange it for me. So I contacted Origin tech support and was able to organize myself a replacement. I just need to send the Retial box with all it's contents to UK tomorrow. I am really dissapointed in EA/BioWare though. I bought this as a novelty item expecting everything to work and then run into issues like this...

Seems like I'm not the only one then...  I can't remember a time ever having a brand new DVD fail out of the box like this, and then I get two on the trot for the same game.  Either shoddy construction or copy protection I reckon

I don't think people would turn pirate for this specific issue, since both pirates and buyers have to download the same amount of data with a faulty disc, whether it be through torrents or Origin.
