Frequent black screen crashes - PC
I have been experiencing frequent crashes with Mass Effect LE in both ME1 and ME2.
My Screens goes black the audio of the game stutters and then carries on then my CPU fans go to the max. I can't open task manager or ALT F4 to program, the only thing that fixes it is force shutting down my PC and restarting. This sometimes requires an additional restart before my PC is back to normal.
but after 60h playtime, it had only happened a couple of times (mostly in ME1) until I get to Garrus: Eye for an eye Loyalty mission in ME2 where the game crashed my PC 16 times before I was able to get through the mission and save. Now it seems to crash after about 5 - 10 mins of game time. I don't know if the save file is just corrupted or what but I really don't want to lose my progress.
I have tried all of the following potential fixes:
- Disable any GPU/CPU monitors
- Disable any GPU overclock
- Disable steam & origin overlays. Note: If you bought through steam, the only way to disable the origin overlay completely is to delete or rename (e.g. .dll -> .bak) \Program Files (x86)\Origin\igo64.dll
- Disable VSync
- Run in fullscreen mode (NOT windowed borderless)
- Steam edition: Local Files --> Verify Integrity of Game Files
None of these have worked. The last thing I can try is reinstalling the game but I want to avoid this as I don't have the best internet.
- Please disconnect the Webcam from your system.
- Restart the PC. (a real restart, not just shut down and start again.)
- Test the game.
