Import Mass Effect '1' character to Mass Effect '2'

I bought the ME trilogy and after finishing the first one I wanted to import my ME1 character to ME2. However, when given the option at the beginning of ME2 to import, ME2 said the needed files could not be found and I needed to use the configuration utility to get the need files. I tried copying the last few saved games and character profile, but I may not have saved it into the right place or grabbed the right files. In any case, I didn't see an executable configuration utility in the ME2 file folder. I'd appreciate any advice to help me out.

  • The configuration utility is in the installation folder under Binaries. Note, this is not the Binaries folder from My Documents. I suppose the trilogy pack installs the game in the Origin folder, so Program Files - Origin Games - Mass Effect 2 - Binaries. You then select the option to copy ME1 saves, which are located in Documents - BioWare - Mass Effect - Save by default.

Note the the forum mods: This is now the most posted question on this forum. Could you make a sticky with the solution? Or could the EA/BioWare devs at least make ME2 on Origin open the launcher instead of the game?
