Invert x-axis camera fix (PS + iOS device)

Hi there! I play with x-axis camera controls inverted, and ME:LE does not yet have an option to flip it. If someone like me is having the same issue and stumbles across this, I've played through the whole trilogy using a set-up with an iPad and the Remote Play app.

What you need:

  • Dualshock controller
  • An iOS device — iPad or iPhone (my iPad is older, 6th gen)
  • Remote Play app downloaded and set up on said iOS device
  • decent internet
  • tenacity and a great desire to play Mass Effect

How to play:

  • Hook up your controller to your iOS device via Bluetooth
  • Go to Settings > General > Game Controller > Customizations > Right Stick > Invert Horizontally
  • Open Remote Play app
  • Connect to PS
  • Turn on the TV — you can play on the big screen without lag
  • Leave your iOS device open, launch ME:LE, and enjoy

Essentially you're using the inputs from the iOS device as your controller. In my experience, the iPad lag never got better, but there was no visual or input lag if I played with the TV on. I only ever had the app crash or disconnect once or twice throughout 100+ hours of gameplay. This method is dependent on internet connection — my PS4 was connected to the router via LAN cable but my iPad was on wifi.

Hopefully the option to invert the camera will be added to the game at some point in the future. In the meantime, I hope this helps someone! I am no tech expert but I will try to answer questions if anyone has any.

EDIT: I upgraded to a PS5 and can still use the iPad + Dualshock 4 to play ME:LE. It disconnects much more frequently, maybe 2-3 times per 2-hour session, but is still playable. The game automatically pauses when Remote Play disconnects (although once a Banshee did grab me right before the game paused from this...oy vey).

EDIT 2: Eventually bought a LAN cable adapter for the iPad and it works like a charm — no more stuttering unless my controller's battery is low or the router itself goes out. Wish this wasn't the solution but it's finally a seamless experience 🙂
