I have tried everything stated in all the forums I can find to get this moving along. I really don't want Kasumi to die in the end. Will this effect ME3 if she does? Is there any fix that actually works. Thank you for any help.

Yes of course, she will not be in ME3 if she dies in ME2

This workaround still works for me, and should work in general, did you tried it?
Just wanted to point out that I am having this problem as well, and I tried the solution listed on the forum post here:
Did nothing. I also completely uninstalled the game, deleted the directories for Mass Effect 2 and backed up my save files.
Still doesn't work.

Are you sure you followed the instructions precisely?
Did you tried the workaround with the "ME2game.exe" as well?
This happened to me in my latest play through of ME2. Decided to replay ME1-3, and never had this issue before. I'm sure those listed fixes work, but I really wanted to avoid them, so since I was early my game I went and did other missions.
What fixed it for me was to complete all recruitment and loyalty missions for all companions (with the exception of Legion). Then, once the final battle was over, before getting onto the shuttle, I went into the Options Menu and dropped my resolution to 1080 (I'm running a 4k monitor, so if you're not, you may have to drop it lower), chose Windows Borderless instead of Full Screen, then turned off all lighting, shadow, film grain options. Got back to game, boarded shuttle, had the cut scene, and transitioned to the Normandy without crashing or freezing.
After making a hard save back on the Normandy, I went back to the Options Menu and turned back all my options to the way I had them. Not a perfect solution, but this worked for me, and saved me from editing the EXE file. Hope this helps someone.
