Launching ME1 disables display

I have Legendary Edition on Steam, whenever I have tried to launch ME1 something happens and my main 1440p monitor starts turning on and off.

It seems like ME1 crashes my display driver and then prevents the monitor from working. In order to fix it, I have to restore it a few days ago so that my monitor works.

I have a 3070 and am quite confused, what is going on? it renders my monitor useless until I restore the computer, very frustrating.

  • For some reason, Mass Effect 1 is only using the integrated graphics on my laptop. I've set Mass Effect Legendary Edition programs in my GPU settings to use the high performance GPU instead of integrated graphics. I've tried disabling the integrated graphics device in windows device manager and instead it tried running the game solely on the CPU.

GPU drivers are up to date. GeForce Game Ready Driver v466.27

Mass Effect 2 and 3 appear to use the proper device. As seen in the windows task manager performance tab.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Have a similar problem. Monitor crashes and causes the system to lockup. 3080 user

  • This actually bricked my computer and I had to do a complete Windows reset in order for it to get back to normal. This is insane, definitely returning the game.

@undyinglego Hey, please type "graphics settings" into Windows Search. Choose to add a Desktop App, and go to E:\Games\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Game\ME1\Binaries\Win64 to choose MassEffect1.exe.

Now back in the Graphics settings choose this, then Options, and select "High Performance" mode, rather than "Let Windows decide".
