Legendary Review ME3

Let me just say that this MAY HAVE SPOILERS. I'll try to keep it to a minimum but be warned.

I'll be adding more as I go through the game.

Mass Effect 3

First off, I noticed that the ages old bug that all your stats and skills still get completely wiped out when you first get to Mars still exists.

Since ME2 was barely any different, I don't expect ME3 to be either.

Like ME2, ME3s combat is quite a bit harder. Although in some ways very funny. All I have to do is point my weapon at someone and they go completely bonkers. Running side-to-side, back and forth so fast that the Flash would be impressed. It's almost comical. It also means that a sniper rifle is useless. Sniper rifles used to be my main weapon in ME2 and 3, but in LE? It's just gathering dust.

The UI in LEME3 is absolutely NO different than Old ME3. No improvements whatsoever. In fact it's a little worse as some icons in the quick-bar appear squished. Graphics are a tiny bit better and I'm hard-pressed to see anything else different at all.

The same new bug I noticed in LEME2 where my squad simply vanished is occurring in LEME3 also. I was with EDI and Kaiden on Jacob's mission and they both vanished once I went outside to get the guns back on-line. They didn't re-appear until the cutscene where I enabled the first gun.

It's been many years since I played an un-modded ME3. Was the planet scanning so obscenely slow? It literally takes over a MINUTE to rotate the planet to the back side. I thought we got a planet-scanning upgrade in ME2?

One thing I don't understand... ME1 has a bug that sets what's called a "bool flag" incorrectly in relation to the conrad verner "Intimidation" plot. A bool flag is basically a single variable bit that's either a 1 or a 0.  But, instead of correcting the bug and changing a SINGLE BIT of 1 to 0, which would be simplicity itself... they instead wrote an entirely new scene with new dialog, animations, and story lines in ME3 to "fix" the problem? Talk about overkill.

For the most part, Legendary Edition appears to be almost completely a graphical update. I could have gotten the same thing from the ALOT mod for free.

  • Cant even play ME 3 on Xbox due to a screen issue. Is it not zoomed in and crunched up for you? Cant do combat and cant really read the dialog options due to the screen cutting them off. No options whatsoever to fix this either. Original Xbox 360 version works fine and it's not overly zoomed in like the legendary edition.

@Damagingninja My UI is bigger than it used to be, but not so much that it hangs off the end of the screen. I'm on PC running at 2560*1440.
  • Yeah, as much as it pains me to say it this was just a cash grab where instead of accepting responsibility like No Man Sky creators did they left the problems of the Trilogy (ME3 main fault is on the second game not carrying the main plot forward) unresolved.

Per the Normandy upgrades they only used the ones which were essential in beating the Collectors mission without casualties and ignored the rest as in the original version.

Rather than look at all the work the Modding community was making for the last 10 years restoring broken content they just slapped a coat of paint on the first game, fixed some save transfer bugs and left the third game as it was mostly because hey, artistic interpretation is more important, I wonder if that's something CD Projekt Red learned when they made Cyberpunk 2077.

One of the main MODS in question is the following which the community spent nearly 10 years doing what Bioware and EA should have done from the start and if not during the time they were making the Remaster:

    @draconiam

Changing the games would do nothing than open another can of worms.

If this mods are "better" as what Bioware did is purely subjective and a matter of personal opinion.

Bioware did exactly what they said they would do, creating a Remaster, not a Remake.

  • Yes, planet scanning was painfully slow in the original ME3.  Fortunately it's easy to mod.  I was hoping that in LE, they would have sped it up by default.

@holger1405 True, MODS would be fun for console players but that's an issue with both Microsoft and SONY and we all know how they'll likely respond.
