What OS are you using? By the look of it this is an old version of Origin that is no longer supported for Windows 7, 8.1 and 10.

If you use one of this OS, uninstall Origin from the Windows control panel and download and install this version > test.

@holger1405 I recently had an issue with one of the Mass Effect games (either 2 or 3) where attempting to launch from outside Origin forced a downgrade to an outdated version of the client. It was very weird.

Origin OS detection is going haywire and installs the old client if that is the case.

The current OS I’m using is Windows XP and the version of origin is 9.12. Since that is the case, will I still need to uninstall the origin I currently have and install the version you provided? Also, if I do need to install the new version, will the “Add or Remove Programs” be sufficient to remove the old origin, or will I also need to remove shortcuts and such associated with the games I currently have downloaded?

No, on XP 9.12 is the right version of Origin. 

The problem is that this is a legacy version of Origin and as far as I know Origin was not even fully compatible to XP in that version. But I am not sure about that.

Ok, first it should work with this Origin version on XP.

What is happening if you click on Install again?

Please try this:

- Close Origin completely.

- go to your ">dive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect \Binaries" folder and delete the "MassEffect2.exe" and the "ME2Game.exe"

- go to your ">dive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect" folder and delete the "Data" folder

- Start Origin as Administrator. > Go to the Game Library and start the download again.

If that don't works, and if your internet connection doesn't causes additional cost, try to download and install "The Sims 4" Trial version to see if this is a Origin problem or a specific ME2 installation problem.

When I would click install, it would show at the bottom that the installation of Mass Effect 2 was complete, which I have shown in the picture I provided in the original post. After it said it was installed, I would attempt to download the additional packs and it would say I couldn't because Mass Effect 2 wasn't installed, where is where my issue began. No matter how many times I would click install, it would say that it was, but it never truly was. Other games, however, such as The Sims 4, which I already have downloaded, update and install updates regularly without any problems, even if I attempt to download additional packs.

Thank you for the step-by-step instructions, I really appreciate it. I tried those steps, but when it came to the "run as administrator" part, I didn't know the password and couldn't find any way around it, so I ended up having to delete the entire Mass Effect 2 folder, so that I could initialize the download process again. Currently, I'm in the process of downloading Mass Effect 2 from the very beginning, but after it's finished I'll inform you as to whether I can install it afterwards, or if the same issue persists.

After the initial download was complete, it proceeded directly to the documentary pack, and once that was done the download process stopped. The bar at the bottom no longer showed that anything was downloading and all other packs said that they were queued, but I couldn't click on them to start the download process. The only pack that showed any sort of ability to interact with was the documentary pack and once I clicked it, it provided a message that said I couldn't download the pack until Mass Effect 2 was installed. I tried to then install Mass Effect 2, but it would load, fill the installation bar, and then never install, since clicking download now on the documentary pack would tell me that I needed to install Mass Effect 2 first. I'm not sure why this is occurring, why it didn't continue with the queued packs, or why it isn't installing after the bar shows that its complete.

If I understand you correctly you did not run Origin as administrator?

Is your Windows user account not an administrator account?
