Mass Effect 1 crashes-- Windows 64 bit

So I recently bought Mass Effect on Steam, and I've been having this problem that has been keeping me from playing that game for any period of time. After about 20 minutes or so, Mass Effect seizes up my computer. The image and sound freezes, and my computer will no longer respond to any key presses or mouse movements, forcing me to power off my computer. Some solutions I have tried and none of which have worked:

-Reinstalling

- Running as administrator
- Allowing the game to use more than 2 GB RAM
- Running in XP compatibility mode
- Manually apply 1.02 patch
- Disabling Hardware sound, film grain, and dynamic shadows
- Set all graphics settings to low.
- Removing openal32.dll and renaming wrap_oal.dll to openal32.dll
- Running in windowed mode

I have also tried all of these in combination in eyerything else. I would like to specify that this problem occurs most often during cutscenes, however it has happened twice during combat and once in the main menu.

My computer specs are as follows:
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
- AMD A10 5800k
- 16 GB RAM
- 750W Corsair PSU
- AsRock FM2A856X Motherboard
- Sound Blaster Fatal1ty Recon3D Sound Card
- 1 TB HDD

If a dxdiag is needed, I will post one.

Darn.  Someone actually posts useful information, and it's a problem I haven't a clue about.

Perhaps disable antivirus during before starting the game?

It sounds as though you're overheating (either your CPU or your GPU), or that you've got a problem with your RAM.  The latter can be tested by running memtest.  The former... maybe immediately after you have a problem, power off the machine, power it back on right away, go into the bios and see what your CPU temperature is at?  I believe there are also tools you can run concurrently that would give you real time temperature data.  I don't have any that I've had personal experience with, but this sounds decent:

    This thread has many suggestions:

Hope any of that is useful or coherent.

I see...  No idea then.  A quick look around found a couple of reviews saying that chip is "adequate" for older games, (at low graphics settings) if only just.

Have you tried disabling "Sync with cloud"?
