Yeah, I figured out how to get around it myself by just shooting everything.
But I'm reporting it as a bug because melee used to count as a kill in the original version as it was part of automatic combat. As did using any grenade except the special plant one. And now both count as non-lethal when they both used to be lethal.
@Escampee That's incorrect, meleeing the colonists in the original ME1 did not kill them, this was always a valid way to save them. I did this myself many times to save all the colonists.
