Mass Effect: Andromeda crashes with Bex64 exeption code.

game has worked for me for the last 4 years.  until this year.

now I get that above error msg and windows reliability history showed

Problem Event Name:    BEX64  Exception Code:    c0000005  and I tried many things I found online.

this one finally got the game running without the above error msg:

Press Start and type Windows Security, then open it.
Select App & browser control.
Scroll down and click Exploit protection settings.
You’ll see two sections:
System settings (global defaults)
Program settings (per-app overrides)

select program settings.
add a program (I picked the complete path name to the executable)
then I turned OFF Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR)
click on apply

game has been running 45 minutes instead of the immediate c0000005 error
for the last month.    even exited twice and game still restarted.

game worked with the default setting ON until this year.
has to be something windows 11 changed as the game (mass effect andromeda)
has not been updated since before 2020.

so try turning that one off. if your game still does not work and still shows c00000005,
try turning off for this game only one of the other default system settings that are ON.

  • yes I left the global setting ON but added a program exception for the game to turn Mandatory ASLR off.

I first posted this on that other thread since the poster also saw the "the error is on our end" msg and the game did not run.  or if another user sees  the BEX64/c0000005 error in the technical details of windows reliability history or in their dxdiag, this might be something to try.

So, to get the game running, you only created the Mandatory ASLR exception for "MassEffectAndromeda.exe" in the "Program Settings" section, without deactivating "Mandatory ASLR" globally. Is that right?

If yes I just would leave it at that.

the default global system setting is Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR) is on.  it has been on since 2021 when I got this win 11 desktop.    I last played the game in Dec 2023 and the game worked then.   I recently tried to play and all I could get was the error on our end msg.  UNTIL I add an exception and turned Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR) OFF for this game.  if I remove the exception the game wont work.   DEP is ON and I did not add an exception for this game.   THe BEX64 error fromyesterday  was from when I removed the exception to generate the error in dxdiag.   the ASLR is again OFF now and I just ran the game successfully,

If I understand correctly, you added an exception for "MassEffectAndromeda.exe" in the "Program Settings" section of the "Exploit Protection Settings" and then turned off "Mandatory ASLR" additionally?
(BTW, the default setting for "Mandatory ASLR" is deactivated, not activated.)

After that  the game was ruining.

And now you removed the exception in the "Program Settings" and the game is not running anymore?

Did you also activated "Mandatory ASLR" again?
Is "Data Execution Preventive, DEP" activated?

there are no bex64/c000005 related errors in dxdiag any longer

I can see an BEX64 buffer overflow error in your DxDiag from Yesterday?

been playing andromeda again for a few days. there are no bex64/c000005 related errors in dxdiag any longer after turning off Force randomization for images (Mandatory ASLR). sfc and dism report nothing wrong. game runs today. so I went into windows security and removed the exception for the game. game crashed again with the on screen error on our end msg, dxdiag with the new andromeda.exe error attached.

I moved your post into a separate thread.

Please add a DxDiag to your next reply.

A DxDiag is an overview of your PCs technical features and recent software errors.
There is no personal info in it expect for the “Machine name” in the second row.
(You might delete the “Machine name” and “Machine Id” line if you wish too.)

    How to create a DxDiag:

    1. Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    2. Copy and past or type "DxDiag" in the new field. (Without the quotes) > ENTER
    3. Wait until the green bar is gone > Click on "Save all information"
    4. Save the file to your desktop.
    5. Here at EA Forum > Click Replay > Click the paper clip icon at the bottom of the replay Window.
    6. Navigate to the "DxDiag.txt" on your desktop > select the "DxDiag.txt" > click on "Open".
    7. Reply.
