Near the end of ME1 with fight with Saren game will freeze and unable to progress, unable to complete game ☹️

Are you using biotics in this fight, by chance?
This was another issue that had occasionally popped up for some folks in this fight, so it may be worth avoiding biotic abilities to see if that makes any difference if you're seeing consistent crashing here.
