Mass Effect Legendary Edition ME3 crashes on start.

Having completed ME1 and ME2 on the legendary edition, I naturally attempted to progress onto ME3. Upon clicking Start from the launcher, I am met with a black screen for several seconds while the launcher music continues to play. I know this itself isn't abnormal as the other games do this immediately prior to launching and showing their game's banner while loading. For ME3 however, no such banner appears, the music cuts out briefly, then the launcher reopens. Observing this through the Task Manager, I am able to see ME3 open for a moment and then promptly disappear once the launcher reopens. I can only assume this is the game crashing.

I have thus far tried repairing the install, verifying local files through steam, and completely uninstalling and reinstalling - none have worked yet of course.

Browsing the forums, I was able to find solutions for similar issues on ME3, but these seemed largely tailored towards other versions (not ME:LE). Any thoughts as to how to solve this?

    • Turn the Cloud-save function in Origin off.
    • Make sure that Origin is completely closed.
    • Go to your "C:\Users\>your user name<\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 3" = "Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 3" folder and move the "Save" and the "BIOGame" folders to your desktop. > Test.

  • Concerning PC I found a solution and just thought I pass it on …etc. My game played ok from ME1 to ME2. When I started to play ME3, it kept crashing or minimizing to the desktop. Every time I tried to open it would just crash to desktop, I fixed it by editing the "GamerSettings.ini" file ... located at _:\Origin Games\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Game\ME3\BioGame\Config. The issue was for some reason it was set at 800X600 resolution. I had to edit to the same resolution as my desktop ... wala it's playable. It appears this is a major problem, causing players to ask for a refund because they can't find a solution...

  • Not sure if coming back to an old thread is the best way to get help but this is pretty much the exact same issue I am facing right now. I was able to play ME1 and 2 with no issues but now, after 12 hours of playing ME3, the game won't launch anymore.

For me the banner appears, I can track that ME3 opens up via Task Manager and see the loading screen of earth, only for the game to stutter and close (without error report) and return me to the launcher.

    So far I have tried:

    • launching ME1 and ME2, which still works fine.

    • starting a new save file because it might have been a single corrupted save but no luck, I cant start ME3 at all anymore.

    • verifying and repairing the data both via Steam and Origin.

    • re-installing the game.

    • turning off the Origin overlay in-game and the same for the Steam overlay.

    • updating my driver.

    • starting ME3 directly as administrator (this seemed to work in the past for people with broken launchers).

If anyone has a solution to this annoying problem I would be really grateful because I am heavily invested in the conclusion of this story and the last thing I need is being unable to even start up the game...

It worked out somehow and I can play the game again! Thanks for putting me on the right track with your suggestion.

If anyone else has this problem:

Removing only the Local_Profile file from the "Save" folder allowed me to actually launch the game (in offline mode but I am not sure if that mattered) and from there the game recognized two corrupted save files (my most recent quick and autosaves) which I was able to auto-delete.

I thought that one of these two might have been the problem but just removing one from the "Save" folder did not help because, as it seems, both were broken.

    @Abyssboi

And you are right, those saves were corrupt.
Moving the main "Save" folder is just to test, it is almost always a recent save that is the issue.
