Mass Effect Saved games with XBox One do not work in XBox 360 due to missing DLC

My disc-based game Mass Effect 1 plays in both Xbox One and Xbox 360, but when going to the "Main Menu > Extras > Downloadable content" section of the game, the game shows the "Bring Down the Sky DLC" available in Xbox One, whereas in Xbox 360 it does not.

I have the DLC installed in my Xbox One, and I have been playing it for a while. It all works fine. Then yesterday I tried to load the game to my Xbox 360. The game loads fine, I even got it installed in my hard drive, it finds the saved games from Xbox One in the cloud storage, but it is unable to load any of them. A message box comes up when trying to continue with any of my saved games in the 360:

"Selected Save Game could not be loaded. Downloadable Content missing. Module(s) in question: Bring Down the Sky [ENPLES]"

The same saved games work fine on my Xbox One, so they are not corrupt or anything. And the message box suggests that the DLC is missing. So I go in my 360 to the "Main Menu > Extras > Downloadable content" section, and there you go! The DLC does not appear there.

Since the DLC apparently is attached to the disc and is downloaded from within the game, Xbox support says (with all due reason) that the problem is not in their end. After all, I did not buy the DLC in the marketplace, the DLC comes from BioWare's servers from within the game. When I contacted EA support for this (now for the 4th time!) after going around for hours the dev team finally took it up, tried to do the same themselves, and found the issue. It is a known bug, and I am now a sad gamer with a game for 360 that only works well in Xbox One.

Please patch this soon!

And if any other of you gamers out there has had this issue, please post here.

  • Dear @EA_David,
I don't think so, that is a link to the DLC in Xbox's marketplace. It would cost me money to install it in my Xbox 360 but it got installed for free with the same disc on the Xbox One. And not from the marketplace, from inside the disc.

I have contacted Microsoft before, and their response is quite reasonable: If it got installed from the disc menu, the issue is from the publisher of the game, not from Microsoft.

Either the game should not have allowed me to install this DLC in the Xbox One, or you should be giving the DLC for free in both environments, otherwise us, gamers, cannot have a full backwards compatible experience with your games.

Aye, and hopefully running this up through the support contact you mentioned winds up yielding results. Unfortunately for now I can't think of other things to try on the player side to get past this, sorry.

  • No, I know.
After the last conversation with your support team, the support context told me that the dev team detected the error and recognized it as a bug on your side.

Whether that means you guys are going to fix it or not is another story. Than would show whether you care or not for both, your products and the gamers. I hope you do.

I'm a little late to this topic(but it's apparently unresolved) but this just happened to me and I fixed it by moving all my Mass Effect data to my external Hard Drive from internal.

Oddly enough, something was keeping Mass Effect from recognizing the presence of the DLC(it wouldn't appear in the DLC list in Extras at the main menu) and moving the data around worked. I'm not sure if it will last though.
