ME1 Shepard uses medigel erroneously when attempting to fire whilst overheated

Why is this issue so common?

I have Squad Powers off completely because your squad mates will use First Aid and force your character to administer medi-gel at random, often inconvenient times, and STILL I run into the issue of random medi-gel administration. I've noticed that it usually occurs when I attempt to fire an overheated weapon.

I really hope this is addressed because I'm loving everything about playing through Mass Effect 1 except for the random medi-gel usage that sometimes puts me in terrible situations (due to being stuck in an animation I did not start) and sometimes causes me to die instantly on Insanity.

  • Are you playing on PC with M&K?  Did you use a power or have the powers screen open just before you use the medi-gel??  Reason I ask, is some people have noted an issue that when you open the powers screen and use a power the medi-gel icon drops down to where the powers bar used to be, and for a short period of time, if you press fire, it activates medi-gel.  One work around for this is to NOT leave your cursor on the powers bar and instead raise it up so it doesn't get a chance to activate medi-gel.  I personally, never spec a character to First Aide, except maybe one who has to have it to unlock another skill, and I rely on the medical exo-skeletons and such on armors.

    I apologize for not giving more information, I am playing on PC with Mouse and Keyboard. I've encountered random medi-gel usage a lot even though I have squad powers completely off. I'm not using powers or bringing up the power screen whenever it randomly medi-gels, it's usually when I attempt to fire an overheated weapon. That being said, I'll keep a closer eye on my inputs and get back to you.

    I wish they would just disable the animation for medi-gel usage when a squad mate uses First Aid. I don't understand why this isn't the case in the first place. It's really sad that I played Mass Effect 1's original PC edition and had a smoother combat experience than this.

    Unfortunately it still heals randomly with a different keybinding. I was having the issue with heal on the default keybinding (V) and am still encountering it with heal on a custom keybinding (Left Alt). I also swapped the functions of (Shift) and (Space) because they were nonsensical and didn't mirror Mass Effect 1's control scheme that I had already become familiarized with.

    Thank you for the suggestion though! I'm making sure to not touch the keyboard when the random medi-gel administration occurs and I also have squad powers off completely.

    @KingFrampt

    Did you tried to repair the game?

    (Origin > Game Library > right click MELE > Repair)
    (Steam > Game Library > right click at MELE > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)

  • I get the same issue, using First Aid seemingly at random while firing my gun. Playing on PC with mouse and keyboard.

  • I saw this issue for the first time yesterday as well (I never use first aid, so it was a surprise out of nowhere). PC with KBM controls.

    I was trying to fire my weapon and it just applied medi-gel instead (I can't remember if was overheated or not).

    Yeah, I saw it last night as well, but reloading seems to have helped.

    Edit: I forwarded it
