ME1 wont start - launcher, me2, & me3 all fine

I can open the launcher but when I click on ME1 the splash screen comes up but instead of loading the game it crashes back to the launcher. I can open the other games from the launcher with no problem.

I will admit this problem started after I modded the game earlier in the week- but since then I have uninstalled all the mods, verified and restored all the files, and uninstalled and reinstalled the entirety of legendary edition (took almost 30 hours with my * internet).

Since none of that fixed it I've been following a lot of the different advice I've seen online for various MELE not launching problems, but none of them have worked.

I'm completely stumped now. Help?

    • Make surre Steam and EA app are closed.
    • Go to your "C:\Users\<Your User Name>\Documents\Bioware\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\Save" folder.
    • Move the "ME1" folder to your desktop. (The folder must be gone from the original path!)
    • Disable the internet connection of your PC.
    • Test the game.

Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

Also repair the MELE inside EA app.

this worked, thank you so so much!!

i had tried removing the saves folder before but the instructions i was following then didnt tell me to turn of the internet.

presumably something in the saves was corrupting the game then. does this mean i have lost all my saves/progress, or can i copy them back in now the game opened again?

again, thank you so much for your expertise!!!

It most probably means one or several of your save games are corrupted.

It is likely that one of the last saves you made is the culprit, so I would start with copying all saves back that are made until the end of 2023 and test.

The problem is that the cloud save function might copy saves back that are newer if you are online.

    • Test the save games wile being offline until you find the culprit.
    • Keep a backup of all your save games at a different place on your hard drive.
    • After you found the defective save games, delete the defective save games from your back up as well.
    • Delete the entire career in game, (that should delete the defective save games inside the cloud save system.)
    • Go online and test if the game runs.
    • Copy the backup of the career without the defective save games back into the games save folder.
    • Have fun gaming.
