No download button in Origin

1)  If you click on the cog button for settings does it offer you any options to play, update or repair the game??  If repair or update, try those.

2)  Does the game show up in installed apps/programs lists in your windows??  If it does, then find the files for it in the install directory, copy them to a folder something like Backup or so, then once you have the duplicate, see if Windows will uninstall MEA, then see if Origin will then download it and reinstall it.  Reason I said to make a copy is, IF this works and Origin proceeds to work again, you pause the download and then copy all the files back to the install location and then restart the Origin download.  This should then make Origin think a bit, and proceed with install part after verifying the files and thus you don't have to download the entire game again.

3)  As for downloading cracked files...yeah, you own the game, but if EA/Origin catches you with cracked game playing, you can still get banned from your account.  Also, I have heard of a few really odd bugs that are part of the cracked game, such as not being able to open/pick stuff up and some say this is programmed in by EA to occur on cracked games....that last sounds like a reach but that is rumor.  Personally I have had very few issues with the game, and have greatly enjoyed it.  I hope you get it going and have fun.

4)  Stupid question time....you did check your junk/spam folder on the email account for the instructions??  And you may want to try the support again, as much like anything some are better than others and you may want to see if you can get pushed up to a lead or supervisor, since you are trying for the 10millionth time..

Thanks, MC!  These are all really good thoughts -- better than anything I've received from official EA tech support so far. Unfortunately, still no luck getting the game to run, but I appreciate the ideas.

1. No. I do have the cog symbol, but the only options on it are "add to favorites," "game properties," and "hide." Opening Game Properties gives me an epilepsy warning, my CD key, the option to toggle Origin In Game, and the option to toggle cloud saves, but nothing for fixing the game.

2. No, I'm afraid not. Perhaps I can use a cracked version to trick Origin into doing this correctly as you suggest, though.  I'll consider that.

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried. Thanks for your help, though!

Things to check....

1)  Make sure you don't have an Anti-Virus causing issues...AVG, Avast, and even windows defender have all caused issues at one time or another.  So either disable them temporarily or put in exceptions/exclusions/white list Origin and MEA.

2)  Make sure you don't have any cloud backup program messing with either the install location or your mydocument/users files.

3)  Check to see if your Firewall may be interfering with some of the game install or Origin validation of the install.

4)  Check to see if you have any legacy installer running or another program of Origin running when it isn't supposed to...use task manager or https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

5)  Check to see(it should be but check) Origin is still set to run normally, aka as administrator and uses Win7 compatibility.

6)  Odd thing to check but exit out any add on programs that use overlays or additional programs such as for keyboards, mice, game pads, or things such as teamviewer or other non-related networking programs that put in hooks to the system.

7)  May not do a thing, but your bios for your mobo lists a 2010 date on it....you may want to see if you have an update available, could help performance and on a rare occasion helps for this kind of thing.

8)  Is your computer hooked up to the internet by wire or wireless??  If wireless, could you run a cable directly to the modem and see if it makes a difference??

I wish you luck, as I said earlier, I like MEA, and for me, Origin has given fairly little trouble and has been fairly easy to use.  Keep us posted.

I took a big step the past few days toward ruling out any issues with my computer: I installed a new hard drive, reinstalled Windows on it, and reinstalled Origin on top of the clean install.

Unfortunately, I'm still having the exact same problem.

The one thing I've not tried from your list is updating the BIOS on my motherboard. There is a more recent BIOS (from 2012), but, without some reason to think it would actually work for the game, and with no advisory from my manufacturer that I ought to do the update, I'm not comfortable flashing my BIOS.  I've never done it before, and can't afford a replacement if I mess up.

So it seems that I'm pretty much out of options. (Unless you have any more ideas?) This seems to be clearly an issue with Origin, but EA is either unwilling or unable to fix it and let me play my game. I'll call EA one more time over the weekend, then I'll have to make a decision about whether to demand a refund or pursue an inferior (cracked) copy of the game I already legally own.
