None of the 3 games will launch

I'm having trouble launching any of the 3 games within MELE. I can get as far as the splash screen (N7 helmet in the bottom left, menu to select which game to play) and as soon as I select any of the 3 games it'll spend a few seconds loading and then quit back to that same screen.

Interestingly enough, this is happening both on my desktop PC and on my Steam Deck - I purchased the game through Steam so am wondering whether Origin is at fault somehow, given that the two machines are technically so different, which might rule out anything to do with the OS or GPU config. I've checked whether my Origin and Steam accounts are linked (they are) and I'm not given any other errors - I'm just returned to the title screen time after time.

I've tried the many workarounds I've found online for launch issues with this game but to no avail. Is there an error log somewhere that might shine more light on the issues?

    • Turn off "Cloud storage" in Origin.
      (Origin menu > Origin > Application Settings > Install & Saves > Cloud storage > Off (Grey)
    • If you use Steam you don't have to do anything, unless you have added Mass Effect 1 manually to Streams cloud save function.
      (If you use EA app let me know.)
    • Make sure Origin, EA app or Steam are completely closed.
    • Go to "C:\Users\>your username>\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition" folder and move all the folders inside to a folder on your desktop.
      (Just to make this clear, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition folder must be empty.)
    • Test the games. (If you use EA app set it to offline mode before you start a game.)

    • Go into your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\__Installer\vc\vc2015\redist" folder.
    • Run the "vc_redist.x64.exe" as Administrator. (Right click the exe > Run as Administrator.)
    • Run the "vc_redist.x86.exe" as Administrator. (Right click the exe > Run as Administrator.)
    • Restart the PC. (A real "Restart", don't just shut it down and start again.)
    • Test.

    If you get a message that a new version is already installed tell us so.

    Edit: There is also not much space left on your system drive, that should not be the problem here, but you should make some room there rather sooner than later.

    Thanks for the reply - for both the 32 and 64 bit installers, setup failed with the attached message (another version is already installed).

    In my case, as I purchased MELE through Steam the path to my redist folder was C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect Legendary Edition\__Installer\vc\vc2015\redist just in case that's useful to know.

    • Go here.
    • Download the "vc_redist.x86.exe" and the "vc_redist.x64.exe" (You don't need the ARM version.)
    • Run the "vc_redist.x86.exe" as administrator. (Right click on the exe > Run as administrator.)
    • Restart the computer.
    • Run the "vc_redist.x64.exe" as administrator. (Right click on the exe > Run as administrator.)
    • Restart the computer.
    • Test.

    Thanks - this time I was able to run each of the VC installers, but unfortunately it had no effect after restarting and attempting to run any of the games again. I've attached another DxDiag export in case it's useful.

    • Hit Windows key and X.
    • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered.
    • Inside the PowerShell or CMD, enter or copy and past: “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth” without quotes. > ENTER.
    • If errors are found, notify us. If no errors were found reaped steps 1 & 2.
    • Inside the PowerShell or CMD, enter or copy and past: “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes. > ENTER.
    • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here.
    • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key and X again.
    • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command Prompt (Administrator)”
    • Inside the PowerShell or CMD, enter “sfc /scannow” without quotes. >ENTER.
    • Post the message you receive at the end of the processes here.

    Sorry that it took me so long to reply, had a baby girl so my attention has been diverted elsewhere!

    I followed all of the steps, with no errors resulting from DSIM. The output from sfc was:

    Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

    Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

    Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

    This did not solve the issue, unfortunately.

    As I mentioned in my first post, the same issue occurs at the same point on both Windows and on my Steam Deck, so I'm not sure if it's any specific Windows/GPU config at fault. Could it be Origin stepping in? Does the game itself store a log detailing why it crashed to the title screen?

    That's done it! All working fine now on PC - I'll try it on Steam Deck tomorrow too, in case you're curious.
