[Old Report] Mass Effect 3 From Ashes DLC download/install will not progress

  • Mass Effect 3 N7 Digital Deluxe Edition (2012) - see attached img for order proof
  • Previously downloaded and installed successfully with Origin, but that was on a different PC/drive. Now, with a fresh install of the EA App (latest version), ME3 and all DLC (except From Ashes), and other games, will download and install via EA App without issue
    • I'm running on Win10 and have >500gb free on the drive I'm installing to. Find dxdiag attached...
  • How the issue presents:
    • When I try to download, after initiating, I receive no error message - the download/installation is just endlessly stuck on "Preparing" (see attached img for demonstration)
  • Resolutions I've attempted:
    • I've reached out to EA support (for some reason, every time I replied to a message from support I was working with a new person, even though I was communicating relatively promptly, and it was unclear they even had access to the full history of the case - strange and disappointing, but ultimately not relevant), and attempted some of their suggested resolutions, but they were ultimately unable to help me resolve the issue
      • Even provided EA Error Reporter report (9f88e4cc-7d02-4157-b39c-7d48946951d8)
    • I've reviewed and attempted the solutions provided in this forum and elsewhere (e.g., Reddit), but have not had success with any of the recommended strategies (I will admit I haven't attempted the solutions that require forcing a workaround for installing via Origin, but I have a hard time believing that is my only recourse)
    • "Repaired" ME3 via EA App
    • Uninstalled and reinstalled ME3
    • Added exceptions for EA App to antivirus and firewall
    • Ran EA App as admin
    • Cleared cache ( https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/ )

@MutoidMan This is a bit embarrassing, but I just noticed the From Ashes DLC actually has a duplicate entry in the list of DLC associated with ME3 in the EA App! It appears to actually be installing - at least one occurrence of it does…

If you check the list of associated DLC installed, after installing everything, does it show the “other” From Ashes in that?

    Please clear your temp files:

    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time
    • Into the new window, type or copy & paste:  "%temp%"   (Without the quotes.) > hit "ENTER"
    • Now your Windows Explorer should have brought you to the "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Local\Temp" folder. > Delete all files and folders in it.
(If some files or folders can't be deleted, reboot and try again.)

    Then:

    • Go here and download "Revo Uninstaller". (The freeware version, Portable version works too.)
    • Run "Revo Uninstaller" > Uninstall ME3.
    • At the end of the main uninstall, Revo will ask you which cleaning method you want to use. > Select "Moderate" > Browse
    • If "Remaining registration content found" is displayed > Select All > Delete > Next
    • When "Remaining Data and Folders" is displayed > Select All > Delete
    • Run "Revo Uninstaller" > Uninstall EA app.
    • At the end of the main uninstall, Revo will ask you which cleaning method you want to use. > Select "Moderate" > Browse.
    • If "Remaining registration content found" is displayed > Select All > Delete > Next
    • When "Remaining Data and Folders" is displayed > Select All (Make sure the "Origin Games" folder is not in the list) > Delete.
    • Restart the PC > Reinstall the newest version of EA app from here.
    • Reinstall ME3. > Test.

    Hey @holger1405

I'd tried this before, just without using Revo. Tried again using Revo, following your instructions. Unfortunately, I'm still having the same issue 🤔

  • @EA_Shepard Well, they fixed the issue with not being able to install Mass Effect (2007) and now I've got another issue: The ME3 (2012) From Ashes DLC refuses to install. I, too, have tried clearing the cache to no avail.

Any word on a fix for this issue being in the works?

  • @ZockMon Come to think of it, I did see an entry for From Ashes in the list of installed DLC when I was trying to install it; however, it was listed as “progressing”. I’ll take a look later and see if maybe the DLC already installed by default and is marked “installed”; in which case, the listing above making it seem as if it had not yet been installed is erroneous and can be ignored. Thanks!

  • Yep, the From Ashes DLC is listed as being installed so I guess it’s good-to-go!

@MutoidMan Hey, so I've seen this before. And as called out there could be multiple instances. It happens with other older DLCs in other games.

You can also go into the DLC install folder and completely just delete the folder itself, repair the game, and install.

This actually works for errors like unauthorized DLC, and a few other things.

@ZockMon  Good call out on this one too!
