yes the purpose of the 1.04 patch is to allow import shepard from the mass effect without the comic book.
and good news ps3 version of mass effect have been improved like mass effect 2.

I have a Region 1 ME2 and Region 2 ME3. I now bought the downloadable ME1, which is Region 1.
Back when ME3 was released, I was able to import my ME2 Shepard, despite ME2 and ME3 being from different regions. However, I now finished ME1 but can't import it to ME2. When I try to import, there's no character in the selection screen. I can only think that this is a region issue, but there was no problem whatsoever between ME2 and ME3 regions.
Does any Bioware staff give support in these forums?
