Re: Mako health not replenishing when going back to Normandy

@Uberei1 Does it affect the MAKO health on Trebin? @EA_Mako, this is a topic on your tank.

Um, yes. But I'm not sure it's just Trebin, it's just that's the only place where I've noticed it.

@Uberei1 Ok, so it isn't just a visual glitch. Has using Omni Gel on that planet solved it's health and visual status?

No, it's not just a visual glitch as far as I can tell. However, the visuals seem to be glitching too. When I go down to the planet after having returned with a damaged Mako the Mako itself will be on fire but the Mako in the bottom left corner (where you, supposedly, can see the health of your mako) indicates that it's unharmed (i.e. it's all white). But if I save and load then the Mako in the bottom left corner will go all red as well and a full shield and an empty health bar appears. I didn't test what would happen if the Mako actually got injuried when it looked all white, though, so I'm not sure if it would act as if it had full hitpoints or no hit points.

Repairing it seems to fix the Mako. Due to an irrational dislike of using resources needlessly I didn't experiment all that much with that, though (so I didn't, say, wait for it to repair fully and then save and load to see if it stayed repaired).

@Uberei1 You can get Omni Gel pretty easily by melting all weapons and armor you find that you will never use and it isn't like you can transfer that to ME2, so experiment away.

Well, the key word there was my irrational dislike of using omni-gel. 🙂 I have more than 200 omni-gel so it shouldn't really be a problem. But... what if I need it later? I can get by if I simply avoid taking damage...

Repairing your Tank is hardly "using resources needlessly". 😉

To summarize, the Mako get damage but instead of using the intended Method to fix it you try to cheat your way around that.

But when you use the intended method the problem is gone.

So, there is simply no problem here, just do what you are suppose to do.

@Uberei1 The Omni Gel is received by melting weapons, armor and upgrades. The tank repairing gel appears to be automatic replenish able. You only use Omni Gel against unlocking things and even that is solved with having people like: Tali, Kaidan and Garrus to do the hacking minigame.

How is it cheating to go back to your ship to have your tank repaired? That seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do when your tank is on fire. In fact, I'd argue that if you're a soldier and you've gotten so shot up your vehicle is on fire then anything other than calling it a day and going back to base is the wrong tactical choice.

As for what the problem is, the problem is that this is so illogical that it's immersion breaking. I play Mass Effect to feel like I'm Commander Shepard, flying around in space saving the world and this behavior makes it very obvious that I'm actually me, sitting at my desk playing a video game where I try to pretend I'm Commander Shepard.

If you want repairs to cost no matter what then they should slap some kind of cost for sending the team down to a planet (blame it or fuel cost or whatever). That would achieve the same thing without being immersion breaking.

(Also, I managed just fine with a damaged tank - all I had to do was not take any damage for the rest of the planet. Ergo, repairing it would have been a waste of resources.)

There was a popup that said -15 omni-gel when I repaired my vehicle. So apparently repairing your mako uses omni-gel. If the omni-gel that's used comes from a different pool then the popup message is misleading.

A fix that consists of "just accept it" isn't a fix worth being glad for. I didn't report this because I wanted help getting past this step in the game, I reported it because I wanted the devs to create a bug report so they can solve it in the future. Until they've done that there's no reason to be "glad".

  • Also, the solution you marked as accepted missed the point, as I pointed out in my reply to said post.

@Uberei1 Bioware is likely taking all these reports to heart, you just played the game how it os supposed to be played. I wasn't the one who labeled this as accepted solution.
