Re: Mako or M-44 Hammerhead

As a note, if the Mako flips over and is wheels up, if you wait a few seconds and then press and hold the jump jet button(space bar for me on PC) it seems to cause it to flip over so you can continue the mission without restart.....if you don't die from damage taken that is.

Now as to the better vehicle....Mako all the way, armor, weapon, shields, now with speed boost, beats the Hammerhead all the way around.

HH, has trash armor, trash gun, can't handle cold planets, can't really hover/jump high enough except in cutscenes, and usually running over enemies do more damage than normal fighting.  Now they have changed the HH jump damage a slight bit in MELE, but here is a fun video I made in Original ME2.....https://youtu.be/aSWD1u0b8DU

    @mcsupersport I have tried that trick a few times in ME:LE now and thankfully it has prevented me from restarting.

    The HH has room for improvements as I stated (opens quite the good RPG elements potential) and that's from someone who was in team MAKO. Maybe a HH 2.0 with: retractable turbines (picture the Jets that fold their wings for ease of transport), a miniature Thanix, some anti personal forward cannons, Solaris armor, shielding (as the first model doesn't have basic shields), anti personal cannons and you end up with a decent stealth vehicle.
    @EA_Mako, I take it you have a clear favorite?

    Definitely the Hammerhead.

    ...but yeah, perhaps it's the many, many hours logged trying to take near-vertical shortcuts and avoid going the long (normal) way around on countless random planets, but the Mako definitely has nostalgia on its side.

    I largely skipped past the Firewalker missions until the Legendary Edition and while they're fun in their own right, not having the HH tie in as much as the Mako keeps me from getting super attached to it for sure.

    @EA_Mako Yeah, it would have been a nice surprise knowing that the HH survived the Reaper attack and was almost completly retrofitted by the time Shepard and co are in London but that would have required for a VERY different final mission (including Shepard repeating his feat of driving a vehicle on some energy beam) and who knows, a confrontation against The Illusive Man where if you don't have the required Paragon/Renegade options he makes the two companions kill each other while Shepard and Anderson stand agaisnt him, if the LI was present that would have gone very horrible in terms of reaction but, back to topic, we constantly hear Garrus and Liara complain about the MAKO until the Citadel DLC vault break in.

    @draconiam well if you are talking upgrades, then why not just upgrade the better vehicle. Take the Mako, add longer boost for greater speed, improve suspension to be more like Nomad of ME:Andromeda, improve the shields and armor more so it is even tougher, add a missile system to increase firepower and then you have a absolute beast of a vehicle.

    While the HH can be improved, it generally starts worse than the Mako, thus it is a worse vehicle. When you can RAM a Geth tank, knock it down, boost high up and land on it's back and kill it faster than shooting it, is an issue. When you can RAM a heavy Geth tank and take no damage, yet a standard Geth trooper with a rifle can kill you in a few bursts, there is an issue. When the tracking missiles can't seem to lock on to a target and hit it, so you have to spray and pray is an issue.

    Yeah, Mako for me, as if you pay attention to the terrain you can follow the "paths" Bioware put in to almost all points of the map, thus not having to "crawl straight up the mountains".

    @mcsupersport True about upgrading the MAKO (and it's a shame how the ME3 vehicle sections related themselves were to shoot from the same machine gun (not even a Geth version on Rannoch)) and while the terrain in most maps was straight forward the most interesting bits in the maps was out of the way.

    The HH weaponry and armor are seriously a hampering which leaves me to believe that it wasn't planned for actual combat but rather scouting missions and that it was a very early prototype.

    Oh I'm 100% Team Mako. That Shepard face was the best troll-y / sarcastic face I found to give a little wink after jokingly choosing the Hammerhead, but looking back I see it didn't make things too clear haha. 😛

    @draconiam definitely called it being my clear favorite if the name didn't give things away, though the Mako itself is just a partial influence for picking this name.

    Lots of fond memories from numerous hours logged in the Mako definitely make it my top choice. 🙌

    @EA_Mako Yeah, I was so excited in ME3 fighting alongside other MAKO tanks and in the final charge I was thinking that had Shepard and Co taken one they would have avoided most of Harbringer shots depending on WA (if we had over 7k then Harbringer shoots other targets but manages to hit the player tank causing it to get stuck in one of the beam pillars only to awaken when the Reaper flies off and we * the state of the crew which we see are wounded mentioning how they don't want Shepard driving ever again).

    I mean the Hammerhead is nice, Manoeuvrability, speed of fire, but why did they made it out of tissue paper? 🤔

    I think the Hammerhead is made out of tin foil....sure it can do amazing things just like the Lunar Module, but don't lean against the surface of it or you'll fall through.

    As I recall the consensus on the official BSN was that the entire crew would have survived the Collector attack if all of them jumped into the Mako.

    Question: Was I the only one who would spam the "fire" button for the first two missions in the Nomad (a.k.a. Not-the-Mako)?  🤔

    @sundance31us That's true, but it took two years for the Alliance to even find that planet and then send Shepard to place a monument and look for the last 20 MIA crewmembers, how were the surviving crew saved in the first place with the Collector Ship in the vicinity?

    @holger1405 Man that sounds fun, reminds me of the times I rammed the MAKO in ME1/ME1 LE only to then fill it with bullets.

    My favorite MEA pastime is chasing the Abyssal around until it flips Not-the-Mako. 😎

    This post started as the debate Vega and Cortez have on the Normandy Armory and then evolved into talking about our favorite aspects of the ME ground vehicles (turret sections don't count). Let's keep the positive attitude.

    @sundance31us Word, some neat songs there. It's a shame that the HH can't use those flames to combat the ice.

    LOL Exactly! That little baked potato cools down way to fast once you put in it in the refrigerator.  😉

    Edit: The ice missions are my least favorite ones.

    @sundance31us True, Bioware made it too weak and not able to be upgraded then again, it was a free DLC tied to their Service Pass back in the day that EA came up woth for all their games at the time to discourage players from buying used games. For those new players things like: Zaeed, Firewalker, Normandy Crash Site and others were initially only available as free DLC tied to a lock that you either got a code when buying a new game (or hoping that used copy name with an unused code) or had to pay to get access to the free DLC. While Zaeed was an ok character the fact that he was available at launch irked a lot of people given that he has so many unique interactions on missions (same as Kasumi which originally was sold at $15 with her one mission, I would have given her for free and leave that $15 space for a mission where we ran into the Virmire Survivor post Horizon but that's just me) it left the feeling that those free DLC's were cut from the main game to force people to just buy a new game and as such much of their original mechanics (upgrading the HH like we could the Normandy SR-2) might have been lost in the rush to launch it.

    But yeah, thw Hammerhead left much to be desired even if there is potential there plus, I love it's shark like design and sharks rule.
