Editing the executable to get rid of the Origin requirement is a violation of the license agreement.

"If you disable or otherwise tamper with the technical protection measures, the Software may not function properly and you will have materially breached this License"

This is intellectual property owned by EA. You own a license and have to accept the license agreement to use the software, but the information on the disk is not technically yours.

As far as editing goes, BioWare has stated that they don't mind if you make modifications to the coalesced.bin file as long as it doesn't affect multiplayer. Save game editing is also allowed.
