It worked on my Creative Sound Blaster X-fi Xtreme Audio. I'm not sure what the other incompatible card was, but I think it's an older Creative Audigy.
Now that I think of it, there's a software solution by Creative that allows software emulated EAX on onboard audio. I once tried a free demo and it worked on integrated Realtek. Played ME1 with surround and environmental audio. http://www.creative.com/oem/products/software/x-fimb.asp
X-fi MB works on Asus and ASrock boards. Trial location: http://asrock.com/feature/SoftwareSuite/index.asp - ApprovedAnonymous11 years agoThank you so much, gonna try it right away with my motherboard. Already sold my DX ☹️
And still deciding to buy SBZ or not. Gonna update you if the software works. - Fred_vdp11 years agoHero+
I recently got a new PC and this thread reminded me I wanted surround sound in Mass Effect. I have an ASRock board with Realtek HD, and bought X-Fi MB3 from Amazon (the store page vanished after I checked out so I can't link it).
It's working beautifully. Dialog comes through the central speaker, all five channels are being used, and the audio is overall a bit crisper than before.
I hope your experiences are similar.
